It’s Selection Saturday! Watch JSZ’s Last Dance Baseball Tournament Selection Show
Jersey Sports Zone reveals the brackets for the Last Dance Baseball Tournament. We’ve got all the matchups as 222 teams try to be the last team standing in Trenton on July 30. In case you missed our live show, check out all the brackets plus interviews with players and coaches around the state. The spring sports season was taken away from New Jersey high school athletes but thanks to an extraordinary effort by the New Jersey high school baseball community, sports is coming back and Garden State diamond squads get an incredible summer tournament for One Last Dance. JSZ presents the Last Dance Baseball Tournament Selection Show. Just like the NCAA Baseball Tournament, we have all the brackets, matchups and interviews with coaches and players from around the state. Jersey Sports Zone’s coverage of the Last Dance Baseball Tournament is made possible by Sterling National Bank. We will have coverage of all nine days of the Tournament starting on July 14 with pool play around the state About the Last Dance Tournament 222 teams, 32 regions. Every team is guaranteed three games in modified pool play. Regions with four teams will play round robin with the best record advancing to the 32-team single elimination tournament that begins in week two. Eight team regions will have modified pool play in the first two days. Teams with 2-0 records will meet up on the final day to determine the region winner. While all the teams are varsity baseball players, the tournament is not associated with the NJSIAA and school uniforms will not be worn. Nutley scores three in the third period to reach seven-game unbeaten streak on the ice
The Essex Holiday Tournament resumed after a break over the Christmas holiday. JSZ has highlights of Nutley’s 6-3 win over Pascack Valley at Codey Arena Nutley 6 Pascack Valley 3 Justin Devlin poked in a power-play goal from close range early in the third period which proved to be the game-winner as the Raiders scored three goals in the third period to break a 3-3 tie and reach 5-1-2 on the season. Nutley has not lost since opening night. Devlin had two goals in the third period while Mike Adler led the way for Pascack Valley with a pair of goals. Westfield 13 Columbia 3 – Boys No. 15 Westfield picked up their third straight win with a 13-3 victory over Columbia. The Blue Devils went ahead 5-0 early thanks to Devon McLane who had a hat trick in the first quarter. Jake Engleke who would also finish with a hat trick tacked on two scores in the second to help them take a commanding 8-2 lead at halftime. McLane would end the say with six goals total as Westfield improves to 5-3. JSZ’s Nery Rodriguez has the highlights: Sponsor! Moorestown 9 Haddonfield 8 (OT) – Girls Kayla Frank scored in overtime to lift #1 Moorestown over #5 Haddonfield in a thriller. Janey Galski led the Quakers with three goals, while Dylan Silar added two. Logan Lillie made six saves, including a huge stop as time expired in regulation. McKenzie Blake and Wayden Ay each scored three goals for the Haddons in the loss. We’re now well into the county tournament season and JSZ has highlights from three different counties: Essex, Mercer and Monmouth. Check in throughout the night to follow along with our high school soccer coverage. #9 Columbia 0 (5) #8 Glen Ridge 0 (3) – Essex County Boys Quarterfinals After 100 minutes of scoreless soccer, Columbia came out on top 5-3 with PKs against Glen Ridge. Senior keeper Sam Maidenberg was the star in this one. Not only did he make a big-time save during penalty kicks, but he actually scored one himself to give his team the edge. Full highlights of this exciting Essex County matchup now: #5 West Windsor-Plainsboro South 2 #12 Hun 0 – Mercer County Boys First Round Connor Staples and Ryan Grund found the net and James Mattson made eight saves to get WWPS into the quarterfinals and a matchup with fourth seed Notre Dame.
