This past spring sports season was the perfect way to close out a busy and exciting 2021-2022 scholastic year for high school sports in the Garden State. Now, it’s time to find out who had the best plays of the spring. Our cameras captured hundreds of games from baseball, softball and lacrosse fields all around the state. With that, comes a countless number of noteworthy plays. So, we need your help! This week, we’ll be asking our audience to vote on four separate categories for JSZ’s 2022 Spring Sports Plays of the Year: boys’ lacrosse goal, girls’ lacrosse goal, web gem and clutch play. Check back each day throughout the week to watch the corresponding video and vote in that respective poll. Watch Thursday 6.9 JSZ TOC Girls Lacrosse Highlights
The stage is set for the last Tournament of Champions final ever in state history. Summit and Oak Knoll, two passionate rivals, will meet in the TOC final on Saturday, June 11 for all the marbles. JSZ has full coverage from the two semifinal games, so take a look and see how these two elite programs punched their respective tickets to the final! Summit 7 Chatham 6 (OT) Jane Freeman was the hero on Thursday afternoon. The junior delivered a golden goal with :12 seconds remaining in overtime to send the Hilltoppers to the Tournament of Champions final in thrilling fashion. Summit (22-2) held a 4-2 lead at the half but Chatham (18-5) erased it and closed the gap. Kayleigh Coughlin scored the game-tying goal with :15 seconds left in regulation to force overtime. Watch Saturday 6.4 JSZ Championship Girls Lacrosse Highlights
It’s time to crown girls lacrosse state champions! We’ve got you covered with a pair of games, highlighted by a team’s seventh-straight state title and another’s first ever win. Oak Knoll 11 Pingry 8 | Non-Public A State Final The Royals have seriously established themselves as the gold standard of girls lacrosse in New Jersey. Oak Knoll (19-4) battled through some early struggles to capture their seventh consecutive state championship in a big win over a red-hot Pingry (18-4) squad. Sophomore sensation Sophia Loschert led all scorers with four goals in the win, while senior Devon Gogerty chipped in two more. JSZ’s Jay Cook has the highlights and reaction from Warren Hills Regional High School: Morristown 16 Lenape 12 | Group 4 State Final The Colonials emerged as champions after one of the most wild, back and forth games of the weekend. Morristown (17-3) locked up the first state championship in program history after squandering a big lead to Lenape (17-2), and then fighting to take it back in the second half. Megan O’Brien was the ringleader for Morristown, scoring seven points in the win. Gianna Monaco scored four goals to help Lenape battle back from a six-goal, first half deficit. It’s tournament season already? You bet! We take you to the first title game of the year, plus two more great games where state powerhouses are challenged down to the wire. Stay tuned for all the highlights! Rutgers Prep 9 Morristown-Beard 5 | Prep B Final | Boys Louis Marius III picked a good time to have a big game. The senior scored five goals and was the catalyst for Rutgers Prep (7-3) to win the Prep B championship in a tough game against Morristown-Beard (4-8). The Argonauts and Crimson were tied 5-5 at the end of the first quarter and Rutgers Prep put the clamp down on Mo-Beard during the final three frames. St. Augustine Prep 11 Rumson-Fair Haven 10 (OT) | Boys Luke Hendricks had three goals and two assists including the game-winner in overtime as the Hermits rallied from a 4-0 deficit to score an upset win over the third-ranked team in the latest state polls. Luke Scarpello had a hat trick for St. Augustine while RFH was paced by Quinn Stankovits who had five goals. Tommy French’s third goal of the game with :18 seconds left forced overtime. Summit 10 Morristown 9 | Girls No. 1 Summit escaped with a close 10-9 victory over No. 4 Morristown following three late scores in the final four minutes of regulation. After taking a 5-3 lead at halftime, Morristown fought back to not only tie the game, but went ahead 9-7 late in the second. After Summit tied the game at 9-9 with 2:15 to play, Lauren Riley found net as only three seconds remained on the clock for the game-winning score. It’s conference championship Friday! JSZ brings you three title games including both the GMC title games along with the Morris County girls championship. Watch all the action! St. Thomas Aquinas 69 Colonia 53 | Greater Middlesex Conference Boys Final (1) St. Thomas Aquinas (26-1) defeated Colonia (21-4) 69-53 to capture their second Greater Middlesex Conference Tournament Title in three years. STA trailed 13-10 after the first quarter, Adam Silas with 11 points in the second put the Trojans up 31-24 at halftime and never relinquished their lead. Silas finished with a career high 37 points and 11 rebounds. Jessica Cooper had 20 points and 7 rebounds to give the Trojans a third straight GMC championship. Watch 2.16 JSZ Championship Hockey Coverage
A pair of champions are crowned at Mennen Arena and Codey Arena as cup season is in full force. Check back in throughout the night as the highlights roll in! Mendham 4 Morristown 0 | Halvorsen Cup Final After dropping a pair of games to the Colonials earlier this year, the Minutemen got their revenge at just the right time. Mendham (10-6-1) rode a four-point performance from Tristan Aikenhead and a 19-save shutout courtesy of freshman goaltender Gavin Thrun to win the 2022 Halvorsen Cup. Morristown (14-5-3) had trouble generating offense in this game. JSZ’s Jay Cook has the highlights and reaction from Mennen Arena: Verona 5 Cranford 2 | Kelly Cup Final Verona (19-3-3) defeated Cranford (9-9-3) 5-2 for their first ever Kelly Cup Championship. After falling behind 2-0 to end the first period, Cranford answered back with a pair of scores in the second to trail 3-2 entering the third. Rowan Brennan already with a score in the first period added two more goals to secure the victory. The New Jersey Devils have partnered with Jersey Sports Zone once again to honor great high school hockey goals all season long! We’ve got the top ten goals captured by JSZ cameras in January and the final week of the regular season and we’re asking you to cast your vote. The winner of our poll will join last month’s winner (Pat Haines, SJV) to secure two of the five slots for the NJ Devils HS Hockey goals of the month. The JSZ staff and Devils will choose three other goals to create our top five goals of the month. The five goals of the month will be honored at the Devils game on March 6th and receive tickets to the game! The polls are open now through Thursday at 3:00 pm. CBA 2 Jackson Memorial 2 (Colts wins on PKs 4-1) A wild game in Jackson saw the Colts earn a spot in the Shore Conference Tournament semifinals and a matchup with Manasquan. CBA scored two goals in the span of three minutes to take a 2-0 lead in the final 10 minutes, but Jackson drew even thanks to two penalties including a controversial call that saw the Jags get a second attempt on their first goal after CBA keeper AJ Pinto was called for leaving the line early. The Colts never lost their composure and were a perfect 4 for 4 in penalties to get the victory. Delbarton, West Morris Central reach Morris County Tournament Final
It’s county baseball time in New Jersey. JSZ takes you to Delbarton for a pair of Morris County Tournament semifinal games. Jack Leiter brought out the MLB scouts for the Green Wave’s battle against Montville. Plus, another great arm showed his wares as Maryland commit Connor Staine dazzled for West Morris Central against Morristown. Watch highlights of both games! Delbarton 7 Montville 1 – Morris County Tournament Semfinal Jack Leiter threw six innings of one-hit ball, striking out 11 and walking just four to lead the Green Wave to a spot in the MCT final for a third straight year. Montville scored on a wild pitch in the top of the first, but Delbarton answered with a pair of runs on a Shawn Rapp bunt that resulted in a two-run error. Delbarton broke the game open in the fourth with a four run frame. JSZ has the highlights featuring Leiter’s electric arm along with some great defensive plays: West Morris Central 10 Morristown 0 (6 innings) – MCT Semifinal Connor Staine threw six shutout innings and the Wolfpack jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead and put the game away with five runs in the sixth to advance to the MCT final and a matchup with top seed Delbarton. Barnegat trailed by 16 late in the third, but battled back and got as close as two points. Delbarton 6 Pope John 0 Pope John and Delbarton met earlier this season, and the Green Wave won 2-1. Today, the Lions hoped for redemption but fell short. Delbarton took this victory 6-0 and team captain, Nick Siffringer, scored a hat trick. Check out full highlights now: Morris Knolls 4 Morristown 2 Morris Knolls and Morristown are Mennen Division rivals that previously met this season. During their first meeting Morristown won 4-2, and so the Golden Eagles were looking for redemption today. Fortunately for Morris Knolls, they came out hot with a goal in the first 20 seconds of the game thanks to Kieran Regen and sustained the lead all night. The Eagles defeat the Colonials 4-2. Our Thursday holiday hoops menu includes the finale of St. John Vianney’s Winter Showcase featuring four of NJ’s top girls programs as well as the semifinals of the WOBM Christmas Classic on the boys side and the Albert E. Martin Buc Classic semifinal between Colts Neck and Lakewood. We’ll keep posting highlights throughout the evening Lady Lancers Winter Showcase Rumson-Fair Haven 60 Franklin 57 Tori Hyduke had 28 points including a run of five straight points in the 4th quarter to break a 47-47 tie in the final three minutes giving RFH a signature win against the defending T of C champs. Diamond Miller scored 23 for the Warriors and reached the 1000 point plateau in the first quarter. Rumson also got 13 points from freshman Grace Munt. The Bulldogs bounce back from a loss to Rutgers Prep one day earlier to score a signature win. After knocking off T of C champ Franklin on Wednesday afternoon, the Lancers got a second straight win against a state power in less than 24 hours. Len Sepanak Memorial Tournament at Ridge Morristown 61 Westfield 51 It’s day two of the Len Sepanak Memorial Tournament at Ridge High School. The first game featured the Westfield Blue Devils and the Morristown Colonials. Early in the game, the Blue Devils were leading Morristown, but in the second half the Colonials took over. In the end, the Morristown Colonials pulled out the 61-51 win over Westfield, improving them to 1-1 in the tournament. Check out full highlights featuring leading scorers Steve Bergeman and Timmy Ganning as they lead the Colonials to victory: Ridge 76 Elizabeth 45 The Ridge Red Devils hosted their annual Len Sepanak Memorial Tournament this week, and took on the Elizabeth Minutemen. Elizabeth had not lost a game yet this season coming into the tournament, while the Red Devils came into tonight 2-2. However, it was Ridge’s Chris Feringa who dominated the court, scoring 19 total points. Check out Feringa as he leads Ridge to their third victory of the season, 76-45, over Elizabeth:

We will post full highlight shows with Friday and Saturday high school football action. On Sunday, we will nominate the top plays captured by our cameras for the JSZ Football Play of the Week and we’ll honor top performers with nominations for our Game Balls. We ask you to cast your vote from Sunday morning through Tuesday afternoon. Our Play of the Week winners will be honored at our statewide football banquet in December. Our Game Ball winners will have JSZ cameras come to practice mid-week to hand out a pigskin in front of the entire team.
