A holiday Monday provides another great slate of basketball across the state. Check back throughout the day as the highlights roll in! St. Augustine 53 Holy Spirit 46 | Boys The Hermits fell behind by by ten early but never panicked, as they beat the rival Spartans in a Cape-Atlantic League clash. Matt Delaney controlled the paint and scored a game-high 17 points. John Horner and Elmarko Jackson scored 14 points and 12 points respectively in the victory. Jack Cella went for a team-high 13 points for Spirit in the loss. JSZ’s Mike Frankel has the highlight from Richland: Mainland 53 Cedar Creek 48 | Boys The Mustangs move into first place in the Cape-Atlantic League National Conference with a close win over the Pirates. Mainland never looked back after using an 11-0 run to close the first half, despite a late push by the Pirates in the fourth quarter. Luke Mazur scored a game-high 25 points to lead the way for Mainland. JSZ’s James Mooney has the highlights from Linwood: Marist 83 Matawan 30 | Boys Junior guard Keith Mency pumped in a career-best 22 points to fuel an overpowering win for Marist over Matawan from the Shore Conference. Mike Jackson finished with 15 points and Manny Toha notched 13 more in the win. JSZ’s Jay Cook has the highlights from the NAACP Scholarship Showcase in Long Branch: Plainfield 65 Trenton 42 | Boys Plainfield (5-6) picked up its second win in a row with a 65-42 victory over Trenton (4-9). The Cardinals led by a slim margin of four at halftime before leading by as many as 20 in the fourth quarter. Tyejuan Taylor finished the afternoon with 16 points. Rumson-Fair Haven 51 St. Thomas Aquinas 35 | Girls Paige Slaven scored 24 points including nine of ten from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter to give 14th ranked RFH a win over the #7 team in the latest state polls. St. Thomas Aquinas was playing without Georgetown commit Kelsey Ransom who was out with injury. The Trojans got 12 points from Emma Boslet, but scored just 10 points in the second half. Lucy Adams added 9 points and 16 rebounds in the win. The regular season comes to a close in New Jersey high school football and JSZ brings you eight games of highlights in the rain and wind. St. Peter’s Prep and St. Joe’s-Montvale battled for playoff positioning, the MAPL final between Peddie and Hun came down to the final play, plus we’ve got big regular-season finale wins for Delbarton and Edison. Watch JSZ’s Saturday Week 8 preview of our coverage and scroll down to watch highlights of all our games: St. Joe’s-Montvale 16 St. Peter’s Prep 7 Touchdowns from Audric Estime and Gavin Sharkey and nearly lockdown play from the Green Knights’ defense were the keys to St. Joe’s 16-7 victory over St. Peter’s Prep Saturday. The win puts St. Joe’s at 7-2 on the season and they’re in the driver’s seat to a top seed in the Non-Public Group 4 playoffs. JSZ’s Jay Cook has the highlights from Montvale: Hun 21 Peddie 16 After falling to MAPL rival Peddie 61-7 Hun pulled out an exciting 21-16 win. After trailing by nine at halftime the Raiders with the help of University of North Carolina commit Josh Henderson scored 21 straight points. As the Falcons staged a comeback trailing by five points and a goal line opportunity Malcolm Brunson grabbed a last second interception to secure the victory. High School football is here! Jersey Sports Zone kicks off our 2018 coverage with great action from all around the state from Thursday’s openers. Here’s a preview of our coverage and just scroll down below to watch all of our games Hillsborough 27 Colonia 25 The Hillsborough Raiders staved off a fourth-quarter comeback from Colonia thanks to a game-winning 38-yard field goal from Franklin Wasserman, a former soccer player playing in his first varsity football game, as time expired in regulation. JSZ’s Jay Cook was in Colonia to capture this special moment: West Orange 26 Montclair 19 | Dorian Rawls 3 INTs, 2 TDs | Week 0 Highlights After a disappointing season in 2017, the West Orange Mountaineers felt they had something to prove this season and today was a good start. Though the Montclair shutout West Orange 16-0 in the first half, the Mountaineers came storming back in the second. Dorian Rawls had three interceptions and two touchdowns, while Shakhi Carson rushed for over 100 yards. Talk about a comeback. Check out full highlights of this exciting game now: North Brunswick 9 St. Joe-Metuchen 7 Aaron Ahr’s 33-yard field goal in the fourth quarter proved to be the game winner as the Raiders used outstanding defense to end a 19 game regular season win streak by the Falcons. Following a scoreless half, North Brunswick got on the board with an 11 yard TD catch by Chris Arnold. Saint Joe-Metuchen took the lead early in the fourth on a 2 yard TD run by Brian Reilly. After Ahr’s field goal, the Raiders defense buckled down to secure a signature win. Watch JSZ’s highlights and post-game reaction: Governor Livingston 21 AL Johnson 14 Jake Faulkner’s 91 yard TD catch from Dylan Dwyer with three minutes remaining was the difference in the Highlanders come from behind win in their home opener. Sebastian Iakouchevitch had a 29 carry, 186 yard, 2 TD performance in a losing effort. Trailing 7-0 at the half, Noah Truncale came up with two key turnovers in the third quarter as Governor Livingston took a 13-7 lead in the 4th quarter on a Jayson Schmidt 9-yard run. Iakouchevitch put the Crusaders in front 14-13 after an 18 yard gallop, but Governor Livingston’s huge play from Dwyer and Faulkner sealed a win for the home team. A game that started in favor of GC switched momentum thanks to some big plays from quarterback Andrew Paolini and fullback Jack Fusco. With a 10 point lead late in the fourth the Lancers made a huge stop to eventually put the game away.
