JSZ has all the action from another exciting high school baseball game Wall 7 Marlboro 6 | Monmouth County Tournament Semifinal Drew Jarkowsky’s RBI single in the bottom of the 7th helped Wall cap off an impressive comeback to reach the Monmouth County Tournament championship game. The Crimson Knights fell behind 5-0 in the second inning before scratching out three runs in the fourth inning and three more in the sixth. Jackson Coan’s 2-run single makes it a 6-5 game and Nick Lovarco tied the game at 6 with an RBI single. Andrew Fischer went 3-4 with a run and pitched a scoreless seventh to earn the win in relief. Wall will face Middletown South for the Monmouth County championship this Wednesday at Brookdale Community College. St. Peter’s Prep 7 Westfield 5 | Thank You Classic The Marauders jumped out to an early lead and never looked back as their impressive win streak continues. Six different players produced RBI’s as St. Peter’s Prep (11-5) won its seventh consecutive game. The Marauders led Westfield (7-6-1) by six runs in the seventh inning, but the Blue Devils put together a rally that would ultimately fall short. Jersey Sports Zone honors the 2021-22 high school basketball season with our annual All-Zone team. We announce the Mister and Miss Hoop Zone 2022 winner with extended features on two more great names to add to New Jersey high school basketball history! You can also find our entire All-Zone team below, which highlights the top public and non-public players on both the boys’ and girls’ sides. Wagner Repeats as JSZ’s Mister Hoop Zone Camden guard DJ Wagner is a two-time winner of Jersey Sports Zone’s Mister Hoop Zone award. The number one ranked recruit in the nation for the class of 2023 helped “The High” to a Group 2 state championship. He was on 35 first-place ballots in JSZ’s voting, done by high school head coaches and media members around the state. Roselle Catholic’s Simeon Wilcher, who led Roselle Catholic to a Tournament of Champions overtime win against Camden finished in second picking up 22 first-place votes. The Panthers (30-2) dominated from the opening tip to the final whistle in a blowout win over the Blue Devils. D.J. Wagner led all scorers with 20 points, while chipping in nine rebounds. Aaron Bradshaw was dominant in the paint and finished with 14 points, 11 rebounds and five blocks. Newark Central (27-6), who was playing in its first title game since 2011, got 16 points and 10 rebounds from Jakai Irby. The Lions took control of the match up early, going ahead 34-22 at halftime and extending the lead to as many as 30 in the fourth quarter. Senior Asim Jones led all scorers with 30 points. Richmond commit Ally Sweeney led the way with a game-high 17 points for Sparta (26-3). Bailey Chapman added 11 points, while Brynn McCurry scored ten points in the win. Ava Mazur led Mainland (28-3) with ten points in the loss. The playoffs continue with non-public sectional finals, and public state semifinals. Check back often as the highlights come in! Roselle Catholic 68 Gill St. Bernard’s 62 | Boys | Non-Public B North Final One of the most anticipated basketball games of the season did not disappoint as the Lions won their ninth-straight sectional championship. Georgetown commit Denver Anglin hit 11 three-pointers, finished with a game-high 35 points and even helped Gill St. Bernard’s (20-7) reach a 10 point lead on Roselle Catholic (26-2) late in the third quarter. RC stormed back in with a 11-0 run, sparked by senior Braxton Jones, and they never looked back. The Lions will face Trenton Catholic in the Non-Public B final Saturday at Jersey Mike’s Arena on the campus of Rutgers University. JSZ’s Jay Cook has the highlights and reaction from Franklin High School: Bergen Catholic 69 Don Bosco 57 | Boys | Non-Public A North Final Will Richardson scored 19 points to become Bergen Catholic’s all-time leading scorer and Julian Brown scored 12 of his 20 in the fourth quarter to give the Crusaders a third straight sectional championship. The Crusaders will face Rutgers Prep for the Non-Public “A” state championship on Saturday at Rutgers. After a tightly contested first quarter, TCPA jumped out to a 37-27 lead at halftime. The Iron Mike’s would go on to lead by as many as 30 in the second half as Jameel Morris finished the night with 26 points. Hannah Hidalgo turned in another stellar performance, finishing with a game-high 26 points in the win. Army-commit Sara McShea chipped in with eleven points for Paul VI (16-3). Kasey Bretones and Ava Mazur each had a team-high ten points in the loss for Mainland (17-2). Watch Sunday 1.30 Jimmy V Showcase Highlights

Despite a blizzard and a delay, basketball took over Bayville for the sixth annual Jimmy V Showcase at Central Regional High School. JSZ has full coverage from all three games, including an upset with major state-ranking implications. JSZ’s Jay Cook and Rich Chrampanis have all the highlights. Red Bank Catholic 90 Rutgers Prep 79 Alex Bauman had 17 points and 16 rebounds to lead the Caseys to an upset win over 8th ranked Rutgers Prep. RBC (16-1) is now on an 11-game win streak. RBC had a 45-40 lead at the half before the Caseys swelled the lead to 13 in the third thanks to hot shooting by Cyril Arvanitis who had a season-high 19 points. CJ Ruoff added 17 in the victory. JSZ’s Rich Chrampanis has the highlights from Central Regional High at the Jimmy V Showcase: Marlboro 75 St. John Vianney 66 Jack Seidler continues his red-hot tear throughout the 2021-2022 season. Seidler won game MVP honors after a game-high 28 points with nine rebounds in a matchup featuring top Shore Conference teams. Marlboro (14-2) led by as much as 19 points in the fourth quarter, but St. John Vianney (13-3) raced back in and made it a three point game later. Nate Williams led the lancers with 25 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists in the loss. Holmdel 57 Central Regional 53 Freshman Evan Romano had 14 points in the 4th quarter on the way to a career-high 27 points to give Holmdel its third win in their last four games. Leading 41-39 at the end of three, Romano would score 14 of the Hornets 16 points in the final eight minutes. Justin Sorrano had 25 points and eight rebounds in a losing effort for the host school of the Jimmy V Showcase. Marlboro’s Mendes wins Central Jersey Week 2 Game Ball

Jersey Sports Zone pays a visit to Marlboro Mustangs practice to honor Zach Mendes for his outstanding performance against Matawan Zach Mendes had three first-quarter touchdowns and 77 yards on the ground to spark Marlboro to a 35-20 season-opening win against Matawan. Top 10 Boys Basketball Games of the 2021 Season: JSZ Summer Recap Series

The 2021 basketball season was short, but certainly memorable. While most games were played in front of near-empty gymnasiums, JSZ hustled around the state to capture as much of the action as possible. Our JSZ Summer Recap Series continues with the Top 10 boys hoops games of the year! No. 10: Hightstown Wins Opener, Honoring Late AD Jim Peto The Rams started the 2021 season with heavy hearts, mourning the loss of beloved Athletic Director Jim Peto. Hightstown honored Peto with a victory over Lawrence. JSZ’s Nery Rodriguez was on the call: No. 9: Delsea Crusades Back from Huge Deficit to Stun Highland Trailing by 17 points in the second half, Delsea battled all the way back to force overtime before beating Highland. Sadique Powell led the Crusaders with 28 points. JSZ’s Mike Frankel had the highlights: No. 8: Spatola Sizzles to Lead Marlboro to SCT Final Jon Spatola poured in 25 points, as Marlboro knocked off Ranney to punch a ticket to the Shore Conference Pod A final.
