Enjoy the coverage — we’ll see you in A.C.! Delbarton 54 St. Augustine Prep 7 | Non-Public A Final For almost a decade the team state title has eluded the Green Wave of Delbarton. After a win over Bergen Catholic en route to a Sectional Championship, Delbarton knew this was their season to regain the title. A sound victory for the Green Wave laid their final claim to the #1 team in New Jersey. Delbarton won 12 out of 14 bouts as Nicholas Nardone won by pin while Anthony Clark and Andrew Tryoczynski won by major decision. Alex Marshall won by major for the Hermits. The highlight of the match came at 195 lbs as it was a #1 vs #2 showdown. Luke Chakonis (1) from Delbarton defeated Mike Misita (2) of St. Augustine 6-4 in Sudden Victory to cap off the win for Delbarton. JSZ’s Kenneth Bradley has the highlights from Toms River: Camden Catholic 51 Pope John XXIII 15 | Non-Public B Final The Fighting Irish are on the top of the mountain in Non-Public B once again after a convincing victory against the Lions. Pope John briefly took the lead after a pin by Eddie Ventresca at 126. However, the Irish got back on track when Danny McKennon picked up a pin at 132 and they would not cede another bout the rest of the way. Bonus points were crucial in this match as Camden Catholic racked up seven pins, including four in the final six bouts. Paulsboro 50 Delaware Valley 9 | Group 1 Final Less than 48 hours after receiving an ICD surgically placed in his chest, Brandon Green was in Toms River to see Paulsboro win a fifth straight state championship and the 33rd mat title in the program’s rich history. Green, the 2019 state champion at 170 lbs. collapsed on February 3rd and saw his career come to an end due to scar tissue around his heart. Paulsboro and the entire wrestling community rallied and Green received a standing ovation and stayed on the bench to root his teammates on. JSZ’s Rich Chrampanis has the highlights and post-match reaction: High Point 38 West Deptford 28 | Group 2 Final High Point has returned to the peak at Group 2. The Wildcats captured their sixth team state title — and third in the last four years — after rolling their way through West Deptford in the final. High Point studs Nick Douma, Josh Gervey and Billy Talmadge all wrestled back-to-back-to-back in the lineup and each delivered bonus points. JSZ’s Jay Cook has the highlights from an emotional win: Montville 34 West Essex 33 | Group 3 Final A rematch from earlier in the month that went in favor of the Mustangs would prove to be no different the second time around. Though close, Montville prevailed once again over the Knights. A 7-7 split in the bouts, it was the four pins that set the Mustangs above the Knights. Aaron Kurzer, Brandon Teresa, Noah Fox and Michael Conrad all won by pin for Montville. Carson Barry, Alex Jones, and Samuel Carsillo won by major decision for the Knights in the loss. Montville wins their first ever Group Title. JSZ’s Kenneth Bradley has the highlights from Toms River: North Hunterdon 34 Kingsway 22 | Group 4 Final Does is get any better than perfection? Just ask North Hunterdon. The Lions completed the 20-0 undefeated season Sunday on the heels of yet another rousing performance. The Lions won seven-straight bouts from 170 pounds to 106 pounds to power a comeback win. Sophomore heavyweight Liam Akers clinched the win with a first-period pin via cradle. JSZ’s Jay Cook has the highlights: Southern Regional 38 Manalapan 24 | Group 5 Final Freshman Nick Bennet got a 4-2 sudden victory at 126 pounds that sparked the Rams to a second straight Group 5 state championship. Following Bennet’s comeback victory, Southern had back to back pins from Matt Brielmier and Eddie Hummel to build an insurmountable lead. Defending 170-pound state champion and Virginia Tech commit Brandon Green has been in the hospital for almost two weeks, and Paulsboro has been rallying to push on through the playoffs. The Red Raiders took down the Wolverines to win their 12th consecutive sectional championship. JSZ’s Mike Frankel the highlights and reaction from an emotional night in Woodstown: West Deptford 39 Haddonfield 21 | South Jersey Group 2 Final The Eagles win back-to-back sectional titles for the first time in program history in a back-and-forth battle against the Bulldogs. West Deptford led early but lost four consecutive bouts and trailed halfway through the match. Cody Thurston (195), Tion Cherry (285), and Justin Monzo-Hull (120) picked up huge pins down the stretch to clinch the title for the Eagles. Watch a memorable night in Bergen County, a South Jersey stalemate and a red hot goalie in Middletown Bergen Catholic 3 Don Bosco 2 | Bergen County Final The Crusaders got early third period goals from Antonio Arcaroli and Nick Chiurazzi to end the eight-year reign of Don Bosco Prep as county champs. Bergen Catholic was blanked 4-0 by the Ironmen earlier in the regular season but turned the tables against their archrival. St. Augustine fell into an early two-goal hole but reeled off three consecutive goals to take the lead early in the third period. Gloucester Catholic scored twice in just over a minute to retake the lead before Chris Cipparone netted the game-tying goal. Rumson-Fair Haven Advances to SCT Final

Rumson-Fair Haven 1 Southern 0 The third-seeded Bulldogs upset the second-seeded Rams in a Shore Conference Tournament semifinal. Eliana Swell scored the only goal of the game off a penalty corner early in the first half. Ceci Newman earned the shutout in the cage. Watch Thursday 4.25 JSZ Lacrosse Highlights

Jersey Sports Zone brings you a pair of lacrosse match-ups from Southern New Jersey on Thursday. We have the highlights of Haddonfield knocking off rival West Deptford on the boys side. Plus we have the Southern Regional girls improving to 10-0 after an Ocean County win over Toms River North. Haddonfield 17 West Deptford 13 – Boys Cornell commit Aiden Blake went off for six goals in the win for the Haddons. Finn Morgan and Max Norton each scored three goals for Haddonfield, which gets back to the .500 mark as it faces a difficult schedule. Southern Regional 10 Toms River North 3 – Girls The Rams busted open a 2-2 game in the first half with four straight goals and the Southern defense held a Toms River North attack that averaged 11 goals per game to three to reach the 10-0 mark. Woodstown’s Prendergast gets 100th win to highlight Region 8 Quarterfinals

The road to Atlantic City culminates this weekend with the 8 regions across the state. The top four from this weekend’s competition punches their ticket to Boardwalk Hall and the opportunity to wrestle for an individual state championship. The Region 8 quarterfinals were highlighted by the 100th career win by Woodstown’s Jack Prendergast at 145 pounds. Mike Frankel brings us the action from Friday night in Egg Harbor Township. Jersey Sports Zone is excited to bring wrestling fans coverage from the state championship finals at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City. With much of the state snowed out, the Shore Conference Tournament was able to play part of its first-round schedule. JSZ brings you four games from Monmouth and Ocean counties. It’s state championship Sunday in Toms River. JSZ brings you highlights from five state title matches including a Kingsway upset, West Essex scoring their first state championship, an historic milestone for Paulsboro and their legendary head coach, plus Southern Regional wins on back to back pins and Camden Catholic gets things started with a Sunday morning state championship. Southern Regional 34 Hunterdon Central 27 – Group 5 State Final Ben LoParo and JT Cornelius scored back to back pins at 195 and 220 pounds to secure a third state championship for Southern Regional. Last second scoring was the key to Southern’s victory. John High scored a fall at 3:59 of his match at 170 pounds. That was the same time for LoParo, who had 12 seconds to go in the second period before his move set the stage for his pin 11 seconds later. An exciting finale to the duals portion of the New Jersey wrestling state championships. Stay tuned tonight as we’ll have highlights from Elizabeth’s dominant performance over Patrick School, a dazzling back and forth showdown between Marlboro and Long Branch plus the Southern Rams scoring a road win. Elizabeth 62 Patrick School 51 No. 9 in the current NJ Top 20, Elizabeth upset No. 8 The Patrick School to remain undefeated on the year at 16-0. It was the first time the Minutemen defeated TPS in 6 seasons. After trailing in the first two quarters Elizabeth fought back to take and hold a tight lead in the second act. Brenden Kelly finished with 14 points while Abdul Shanunu had 10. No. 16 Southern Regional Boys Wrestling Upsets No. 7 Phillipsburg

The Southern Regional Rams skipped the Shore Conference Tournament this weekend, and instead hosted the Phillipsburg Stateliners on Saturday afternoon. Phillipsburg went into the match with an 11-1 record, after Hunterdon Central handed them their first loss on Thursday. The 152-pound weight class was the third bout of the day. Cody Harrison, the No. 1 152-pound class wrestler, took on Southern’s Nick O’Connell. O’Connell won the bout 11-3. The 120-pound weight class resulted in the only pin of the day. Southern’s Matt Brielmeier pinned Phillipsburg’s Joe Innamorato, sealing the deal for the Rams. Southern Regional walked away with a 32-16 upset win, improving their overall record to 11-4 for the season.
