Max Brignola (152 pounds) and Jack Kelly (182 pounds) captured Super Region titles in their senior year. Southern Regional 41 Jackson Memorial 24 The Rams racked up eight straight wins between 113 and 160 pounds to get a win over one of their Shore Conference rivals. The state championship matchups are set in New Jersey high school girls soccer. The weather forced games to go from neutral sites to home fields around the Garden State. JSZ has action from four state semifinals. Hunterdon Central 1 Eastern 0 | Group 4 Semifinal Emily Mason’s header on a corner kick from Maddy Brennan in the 13th minute was the game’s lone goal as the Red Devils avenge last year’s overtime loss to the Vikings and end a 42 game unbeaten streak by the current #1 ranked team in the national polls. Mason, a junior committed to Rutgers, was able to crash the net after Brennan’s corner hit off the crossbar. Hunterdon Central will play Scotch Plains-Fanwood in the state title game this Saturday at Kean University. Freshman Kiersten Brown also scored for Wall in the win. Wall will face Parsippany Hills in the Group 2 final on Saturday. Barbara Grimm got the scoring started in the 5th minute and Lauren Sapanaro gave the Blue Devils a 2-0 halftime lead. Sydney Sears had three assists including a cross to Meli Pekmezian to make it a 3-0 game before Eichenbaum closed out the scoring with three straight to give her 34 for the year. Ocean City more aggressive on offense won the shots on goal 14-8 and goalie Abbey Fenton finished with eight saves. They will take on Rampo at Kean University on 11/16. No. 8 Gloucester Catholic 10 Audubon 0 The Rams started the Joe Hartmann Diamond Classic with a bang, taking care of the Green Wave in five innings. North Carolina commit Anthony Solometo allowed just two hits to earn the win. Rider recruit Luke Lesch led the way at the plate with three RBIs. Iona commit Tyler Cannon added a pair of RBIs. Steven’s securing the win in an odd ending against Monroe. Jackson Liberty 5 Point Pleasant Boro 4 The Lions rallied for three runs with two outs in the 7th inning to get a come from behind win to make it 11 straight wins and a 13-1 record. Trailing 4-2, Point Boro starter Nick Guzzi was forced to leave the game following his 8th strikeout of the game with two outs in teh 7th after reaching 113 pitches. The Lions rallied with an infield single from Charlie Rudderow, a base hit up the middle by David Melfi and the go-ahead RBI single courtesy of Shane Hickey. We wrap up the first full weekend of high school football in New Jersey with highlights from a NJ/PA showcase at Rutgers, a last-second thriller in Colts Neck, the battle of Brick and many more games around the state. Bergen Catholic 21 Archbishop Wood (PA) 7 There was no letdown from Bergen Catholic after a stunning win against national powerhouse Grayson last weekend in Georgia. Back home in the Garden State, the Crusaders came to play and dominated an Archbishop Wood team in the first half for a commanding win.
