The NJ state basketball playoffs continue with the public sectional quarterfinals tipping off on Wednesday. JSZ brings you a wild finish between Cherry Hill East and Eastern, plus a rivalry clash between Cherokee and Shawnee!


Cherry Hill East 46 Eastern 45 | Boys | Group 4 South Quarterfinal

The Cougars gave a new meaning to the phrase “survive and advance” after fending off a late rally from the Vikings to pick up their 24th straight win. E.J. Matthews-Spratley paced East with a game-high 22 points in the win. Jake Green knocked down the go-ahead three-pointer late in the fourth quarter for Cherry Hill East (27-1). Noah Payne scored a team-high 21 points in a valiant effort from Eastern (15-13). The Cougars will host fourth-seed Cherokee on Friday.

Cherokee 30 Shawnee 28 | Boys | Group 4 South Quarterfinal

The Chiefs lost to the rival Renegades by 47 points last week, but they flipped the script this time around and shut down Shawnee. Keishon Sellers led a balanced Cherokee attack with ten points. Zach Distel was the unsung hero for the Chiefs (15-13), holding Monmouth commit Andrew Ball to eight points. Matt Fish led the Renegades (21-7) with nine points in the loss.
