The state playoffs resumed on Tuesday as JSZ goes around the Garden State to bring you more great postseason action!
St. Augustine 4 Union Catholic 1 | Non-Public “A” South Quarterfinal
The Hermits struck for four runs in the third then leaned on great pitching down the stretch to knock off the Vikings in the sectional quarterfinals. Rutgers commit Joey Erace got the big inning started with a RBI double before Joe Peacock capped off the frame with a two RBI single. Northwestern commit Matt Kouser tossed three-plus shutout innings to get the win for second-seeded St. Augustine (17-9). Adrian Rojas allowed four runs over five innings with five strikeouts in the loss for seventh-seeded Union Catholic (16-9). St. Augustine will host third-seeded CBA in the semifinals on Thursday.

CBA 2 Donovan Catholic 1 | Non-Public “A” South Quarterfinal
Jayden Matejicka’s two run double in the bottom of the fifth inning gave CBA the lead and the pitching duo of Tommy DiTullio and Shane Langan were outstanding to give the Colts a spot in the Non-Public “A” South semifinal and a matchup on the road at Saint Augustine. Donovan Catholic’s Joe Maier led the game off with a solo homer that smashed off the CBA scoreboard in left field. DiTullio settled down after that and matched Donovan Catholic ace Jake Marciano. The Colts got a walk and a pair of bunt singles to set up Matejicka’s big hit.
JSZ’s Rich Chrampanis has the highlights and post-game reaction from Lincroft:
Delbarton 10 DePaul Catholic 6 | Non-Public “A” North Quarterfinal
The state’s top-ranked team extended their win streak to 16-straight games as they punched their ticket to the next round of the state tournament. Third baseman Danny Haggard went 3-3 with an RBI triple to lead an offensive outburst for fourth-seeded Delbarton (28-2) in the win. Aiden Dill earned the win on the mound after four quality innings to go along with an RBI single from the dish. Fifth-seeded DePaul Catholic (18-10) scored five of their six runs in the final two innings and even got the tying run to the plate late in the seventh inning.
