St. Joe’s (Mont.) 5 Westwood 4 | Bergen County Tournament Final
A nail-biting seventh inning had everyone at Demarest High School on their feet.
The Cardinals had the Green Knights on their heels after three walks and a hit by pitch in the bottom of the seventh inning. The game-winning run was standing at second base, but Gabe Alvarez buckled down for a game-ending strikeout, helping fourth-seeded St. Joe’s (21-5) win their 12th all-time Bergen County Tournament championship.
Brady Shust was named tournament MVP along the way – he blasted a towering two-run home run in the sixth inning that changed the game’s momentum while putting SJR in front with a 4-3 lead.
Third-seeded Westwood (22-6) only mustered two hits but battled all game with long-winded at bats and aggressiveness on the base paths.
