Bad weather certainly had no effect on NJ’s pitchers Tuesday afternoon. JSZ was on hand for four games and captured some thrilling performances on the hill, including Howell throwing a combined 19 strikeout no-hitter and Mike Walter and Jacob Denner throwing complete games with 11 and 9 strikeout performances, respectively. Enjoy all the highlights!

Howell 1 Long Branch 0

Bryan Bernard and Ryan Bearse combine on a 19 strikeout no-hitter in a remarkable pitching effort as the Rebels made the most of a Kyle Brex sacrifice fly to score a 1-0 road win. Bernard was amazing throwing six innings with just two walks and a staggering 17 strikeouts. The senior left hander was at 106 pitches through six innings and with the NJSIAA pitch limit at 110, there was no chance of going the distance for the no-hitter. Bearse struck out two more to seal the no-hitter. Watch the highlights and post-game reaction from Long Branch High:

Notre Dame 7 East Brunswick 5

Notre Dame improved to 4-0 after surviving a late inning emotional rollercoaster to East Brunswick. The Irish got ahead early thanks to Nick Feretic and Mike Kane who combined for 6 RBI’s in the first two innings. However, the Bears did some hitting of their own in the fifth before a 30 minute rain delay had them down just 7-5 in the bottom of the seventh. Feretic completed his performance by striking out the last three batters to secure the W. JSZ’s Nery Rodriguez has the highlights:

Bergen Catholic 10 DePaul 0

University of Michigan commit and southpaw hurler Jacob Denner paid no attention to the unattractive weather Tuesday as he threw a five inning complete game shutout with nine strikeouts for the Crusaders as they mercy-ruled DePaul, a division rival. JSZ’s Jay Cook has all the action from Breslin Field in Lyndhurst:

Hammonton 7 Williamstown 2

Mike Walter threw a complete game, striking out 11 to lead the Blue Devils to victory. Jared Beebe paced Hammonton at the plate with a three-run homer. Jake Lintner knocked in a pair of runs in the win as well. Mike Constanzo had an RBI single for the Braves in the loss. JSZ’s Mike Frankel has the highlights from this Tri-County Conference Royal Division rumble:
