Rumson-Fair Haven 3 Middletown North 2 (Overtime)
Rowan Goldin redirected a shot from Tony Bruno 9:30 into overtime to give 14th seed Rumson-Fair Haven a stunning 3-2 overtime win over #3 Middletown North in the opening round of the Shore Conference’s Dowd Cup. Middletown North had beaten RFH twice in the regular season and jumped out to a 2-0 lead after two periods on goals by Kurt Kroper and Brad Heuer. In the 3rd period, Rumson got back into the game after Blake Lerner scored from the point. With 2:45 to go in the 3rd period, Collin Anderson’s blast from the point tied the game at 2 and brought overtime setting the stage for Goldin’s heroics. Deven Ralph scored a pair of goals and Clay Simonsen had a 31 save shutout to give Middletown South a spot in the Handchen Cup semifinals and a matchup with Jackson Memorial.
