The first weekend of the baseball season continues on and we’re here to bring you highlights from around the state. Check out the highlights as they roll in!


CBA 5 Ferris 1

Tulane commit Colin Reilly collected 11 strikeouts over five innings of work to help lead the Colts (1-1) to a win in their home opener in an out-of-conference game. CBA broke a 1-1 tie in the fourth inning, which was headlined by a big, two-run homer courtesy of St. John’s commit Zaine Toneske.

St. Joseph (Metuchen) 13 Perth Amboy 0

St. Joseph (Metuchen) picked up its first win of the 2022 baseball season with a dominating 13-0 victory over Perth Amboy. The Falcons capitalized on early errors and walked in runs to lead 8-0 after three innings. The story of the afternoon was Virginia commit Donovan Zsak making his first start in over a year, after missing all of last season due to Tommy John surgery. Zsak finished with 10 strike outs, 1 hit allowed and no earned runs. JSZ’s Nery Rodriguez has the highlights and postgame reaction:

Bishop Eustace 4 Jackson Memorial 2 | Coaches vs. Cancer Showcase

The Crusaders knocked off the Jags for a signature opening weekend win. Rutgers commit Jack Kirchner and Landon Mack combined for ten strikeouts and allowed just four hits in the win for Eustace (1-1). A.J. Lauletta, Andrew Auerbach and Anthony Mascuilli all drove in runs in the victory. J.R. Osmond drove in both runs for Jackson Memorial (1-1) in the loss.

Cherokee 9 Holy Spirit 2 | Coaches vs. Cancer Showcase

The Chiefs move to 2-0 on the young season behind a strong performance on the mound from Blake Weinstein. The Cabrini-commit tossed six innings, allowing just two runs while striking out eight batters in the win. Jason Schooley knocked in a pair of RBIs as Cherokee (2-0) produced back-to-back four-run innings to break the game open. Trevor Smith had a two-RBI double in the loss for Holy Spirit (1-1).
