St. Joseph Academy 7 Absegami 6

Trailing 6-4 heading to the seventh inning, the Wildcats rallied late to stay unbeaten. Boston College commit Cohl Mercado had a pair of RBIs in the victory for St. Joe (2-0). Ty Mercado and Lucas Middleman also drove in two runs apiece in the win. Andrew Baldino and Matt Johansen each drove in two runs for Gami (2-1) in the loss.

Ridge 14 Somerville 7

Explosive offense and lights out pitching led the Red Devils (3-1) to a win over a fierce conference opponent. Connor Byrne struck out 10 batters over five innings of work and only gave up one earned run in a standout performance from the mound. George Busnach continued his hot play this season with a 2-4 day at the dish with 3 RBI. Brian Leitz also stood out with a web gem defensive play and an RBI. Somerville (2-2) drops their delayed home opener in the loss.

Cedar Creek 9 Ocean City 3

The Pirates got the bats going in a big way to knock off the Red Raiders in Cape-Atlantic League action. Rutgers-commit Christian Coppola struck out eleven batter over four innings, and added a two-run home run at the plate in the win. Nate Kennedy and John McColl chipped in with two RBIs each for Cedar Creek (2-1). Jack Hoag went 2-4 with two stolen bases and run scored in the loss for Ocean City (1-4).

Ranney 17 Keansburg 1

Charlie Chropuvka hit a third-inning grand slam on the way to a five-RBI and Brett Wehringer added four more RBIs in Ranney’s rout in divisional play. Jack Renaud struck out 11 in four innings not allowing a hit and walking just one. JSZ’s Rich Chrampanis has the highlights from Keansburg:
