Bergen Catholic 24 Red Bank Catholic 6 | Non-Conference
Two rushing touchdowns from Kaj Sanders and an overwhelming defensive performance were the main highlights for the Crusaders in their season-opening win. Sanders tallied 81 rushing yards and showed his elite burst numerous times as Bergen Catholic (1-0), the consensus No. 1 ranked team in New Jersey, pulled away early in the third quarter. The Crusaders’ defense limited Red Bank Catholic (0-1) to two first downs in the first half and only 189 total yards.

Rumson-Fair Haven 24 Middletown South 6 | Shore Conference
Owen O’Toole threw for 225 yards and accounted for two touchdowns and RFH scored 10 points off of turnovers in the second half to score an impressive road win to open the 2023 season. Middletown South lost QB/DB/K Jake Czwakiel to injury in the first quarter but scored late in the first half on backup QB Jackson Cassidy’s 11-yard TD pass to Owen Richter to make it a 7-6 game at the half. RFH answered in the second half with 17 unanswered points fueled by two fumble recoveries and two long passes from O’Toole to Nick Thomas.

Mainland 26 Washington Twp. 7 | Battle at the Beach
Stephen Ordille rushed for 128 yards and a touchdown to help lead the Mustangs to victory to open the season. Ordille and Villanova commit Jamie Tyson also had interceptions on defense for Mainland. Rocco DeBiaso, Cohen Cook and Liam Kennedy also scored TDs in the win for the Stangs (1-0). Jared Dzierzgowski scored a touchdown and picked off a pass on defense for the Minutemen (0-1) in the loss.

Toms River North 14 Millville 7 | Battle at the Beach
Nasir Jackson came up with a late interception as the Mariners leaned on its defense to fend off a late rally from the Thunderbolts. Penn State commit Ja’Elyne Matthews and Blaise Boland combined for four sacks on the afternoon. Stanford commit Micah Ford rushed for 171 yards and scored two total touchdowns in the win for Toms River North (1-0). Lotzeir Brooks hauled in seven catches for 71 yards and a touchdown in the loss for Millville (0-1).

Camden Eastside 6 Irvington 0 | Non-Conference
Camden Eastside scored a big Week 0 road victory, taking down No. 10 Irvington 6-0. Defense ruled the first half, three star recruit Willy Love came down with a 30 yard touchdown reception for the Tigers as 28 seconds remained in the second quarter for the game’s only score. Senior Naz Flack in his first start at quarterback finished with 169 total yards of offense and a passing touchdown for Eastside.
