Opening weekend in boys and girls basketball continues with some great matchups across the Garden State. Check back throughout the night as the highlights are posted!


Blair Academy 51 Ramapo 42 | Boys | NJ Hoop Recruit Classic

Six-foot-ten junior Jack Bailey was reliable all night long and he powered some clutch shooting in the fourth quarter as the Bucs moved past the Raiders. Bailey was named game MVP with 14 points and seven rebounds in the win for Blair Academy (9-0). Ramapo, coming off a Group 3 state championship, erased a double-digit deficit to make it a one-point game in the fourth quarter. Princeton commit Peyton Seals had 11 points and seven rebounds while Chris Cervino tallied 14 points of his own for Ramapo (0-1) in their season opener.

St. John Vianney 58 Dr. Phillips (FL) 51 | Girls

St. John Vianney could have been viewed as a rebuild after losing McDonald’s All-American Zoe Brooks, but the Lancers proved they are reloading scoring a win against the two-time 7A Florida state champion that is ranked in multiple national polls.  Sophomore Taylor Sofilkanich was sensational with 25 points in the win.  Sofilkanich made two straight baskets to break a 47-47 tie and never surrendered the lead in crunch time.

Gloucester Catholic 49 Glassboro 40 | Boys

The Rams used a 19-0 run in the first quarter to take control and pick up their first win under new head coach Brandon Dougherty. Trey Battle led the way for Gloucester Catholic with a team-high 14 points and a game-high 14 rebounds. Kyle Guldin chipped in with 12 points and 13 rebounds while Jack Mustaro also finished with a team-high 14 points in the win. Clinton Suggs went for a game-high 15 points in the loss for Glassboro.
