Some were “pod playoff” games, while others were fantastic regular season matchups. Week 7 is in full swing with tremendous Friday night action!

Somerville 39 Woodbridge 26

It was the most monumental Big Central Conference game in 2020 thus far, and Somerville (7-0) remained undefeated with a 39-26 victory to hand Woodbridge (5-1) its first loss. After trailing 13-6 at halftime, the Pioneers answered back with touchdowns on consecutive drives to take the lead. Somerville running back Cookie Desiderio finished the night with 278 rushing yards and four touchdowns. JSZ’s Nery Rodriguez has the highlights:

Donovan Catholic 28 Red Bank Catholic 14 | Shore Conference Semifinal

Jayon Farrar had three touchdown catches and Jahdir Loftland had 30 carries for 157 yards to give the Griffins a spot in the Shore Conference championship next week against top seed Wall. Farrar broke a 14-14 tie with a 5-yard TD catch in the third quarter and put the game out of reach with a 51-yard TD catch following a Donovan Catholic defensive stop.

Wall 42 Mater Dei Prep 0 | Shore Conference Semifinal

Casey Larkin looked every bit like the top player in the Shore Conference Friday night after exploding for 189 yards and a pair of touchdowns to lead his Crimson Knights past Mater Dei Prep. Logan Peters chimed in with a pair of scores while Wall’s defense held the Seraphs to only 60 yards.

Ocean City 12 St. Joseph (Hamm.) 7 | WJFL Pod B Semifinal

Only in 2020 could you have a public school and a non-public school square off with so much on the line, and the Red Raiders took advantage. Ocean City beat the Wildcats for the first time since 1976. Joe Repetti rushed for 87 yards and connected with Jake Schneider for a touchdown in the victory. Brady Rauner capped a stout OC defensive effort with an interception late in the game to seal the win. Army commit Ahmad Ross scored a TD for St. Joe in the loss.

JSZ’s Mike Frankel has the highlights and reaction:

Holy Spirit 34 Winslow 0 | WJFL Pod A Semifinal

The Spartans turned in one of their most impressive performances of the season, dominating the previously-unbeaten Eagles to reach the WJFL Pod A Final. Patrick “Cheeks” Smith continued his tremendous season, rushing for 265 yards and two touchdowns in the win. Elijah Steward hauled in two touchdowns from Trevor Cohen. Holy Spirit will face the winner of Lenape and Cherokee in the WJFL Pod A Final.
