It’s a banner day for New Jersey high school hockey and four players who were in the NJ high school hockey ranks were picked in the 2023 NHL Draft!
The 2023 NHL Draft took place in Nashville and two former New Jersey high school hockey standouts who played for the US Under 18 Development program heard their names called on day two along with a Morristown-Beard product who will begin his freshman year at UMass-Amherst and a Gloucester Catholic JSZ All-Zone selection from 2020. Don Bosco defenseman Drew Fortescue is the first Ironman to be selected in the NHL Draft by the New York Rangers in the third round. Bergen Catholic’s Aram Minnetian, also a blue liner, went in the fourth round to the Dallas Stars. Both Fortescue and Minnetian will play college hockey at Boston College. Gloucester Catholic’s Chris Pelosi, who played one season in the Gordon Conference in 2019-20, went to the Boston Bruins in the third round. Nick VanTassell who helped Morristown-Beard win the Mennen Cup in 2020 was a seventh-round selection by the Ottawa Senators.
