The 2020 season will be forever remembered in New Jersey. Not because of the missing true state championships, but due to the resiliency of programs and players all season long. JSZ’s Summer Recap Series of the 2020-2021 scholastic season continues with our top girls soccer games of the year. “Unofficial” champions were crowned, crossover games between unfamiliar opponents happened and wild finishes were a thing of the norm.
Here are our picks for the Top 10 girls soccer games of the 2020 season!
No. 10: Brigitte Bussiere’s Incredible Late Goal Stuns Old Bridge
Unranked Monroe defeated Old Bridge 3-2 thanks to a must-see goal from Senior Brigitte Bussiere. Bussiere finished with two goals on Nov. 3. JSZ’s Nery Rodriguez has the call:
No. 9: Rutgers Commits Emily Mason and Kylie Daigle Face Off
Two of the Garden State’s elite girls soccer prospects met on Oct. 29 as undefeated Hunterdon Central, featuring NJ’s Gatorade Player of the Year Emily Mason travelled to Pennington to take on the Red Raiders and Kylie Daigle. The duo are both bound for Rutgers in the Fall, but gave us a match up to remember. JSZ’s Nery Rodriguez was on the call:
No. 8: Morgan Cupo’s 2 Goals Lead RBC to Non-Public Central/East Title
Red Bank Catholic capped off a 10-4 season with a Non-Public Central/East Title following a 4-1 victory over St. John Vianney. Morgan Cupo scored twice in Championship game on Nov. 22, JSZ’s Rich Chrampanis has the highlights:
No. 7: Vanessa Sarf’s Triple OT Golden Goal Takes Down Middletown South
Unranked Manalapan handed Middletown South their first loss of the season on Oct. 13 with a 4-3 victory following a golden goal from Vanessa Sarf in triple overtime. Jay Cook has the story from Middletown:
No. 6: 2 OT Golden Goal Keeps Washington Twp’s Playoff Hopes Alive
Mike Frenkel was there when Jessica Castorina’s golden goal led Washington Township to a 3-2 victory over Clearview in double overtime. The win kept Township’s playoffs hopes alive. Watch the recap:
No. 5: Katie Aglione wins Central East B Girls Title for RFH in 2 OT
JSZ’s Kenneth Bradley was there when Rumson-Fair Haven stopped Wall’s undefeated season with a 3-2 victory in double overtime for the Central East B Title. Katie Aglione netted the game winning score on Nov. 22. Watch the highlights:
No. 4: Sophie Berman’s 5 Goals Leads Robbinsville To Title
Robbinsville capped off a 19-1 season with an impressive 6-1 victory over Del Val for the Central West A Final. Even more impressive was the five goal performance from Sophie Berman. JSZ’s Nery Rodriguez was there for all the action:
No. 3: IHA Wins Northeast Non-Public Final in PK’s
A nail-biter to say the least; Immaculate Heart Academy and Montclair Kimberley needed more than extra time to crown a champion. Goalie Lauren Mockler finished with 10 saves as the Blue Eagles won the Northeast Non-Public Title in Penalty Kicks (4-3). JSZ’s Jay Cook has the highlights:
No. 2: Ocean City Finishes Perfect/Faith Slimmer Breaks OC Scoring Record
Ocean City capped off the most unusual girls soccer season the state has ever witnessed with a record of 11-0-1 and the South East B Title. The Red Raiders defeated Absegami 9-1 as Faith Slimmer found net four times to break the OC scoring record with 100 career goals. Mike Frenkel was there on Nov. 22 for all the action:
No. 1: Eastern Completes Undefeated Season
The state’s top ranked team finished 2020 perfect and South West D Champions following a 3-0 shut out vs. Washington Township. Army commit Cami Silvestro scored late to lead the Vikings to a 15-0 record. JSZ’s James Mooney was on the call:
