Mountain Lakes 14 Sparta 9 | Kirst Cup Quarterfinals
Holden Gillespie poured in six goals to lead Mountain Lakes to a 14-9 win over Sparta in the Kirst Cup quarterfinals at Kean University. The Lakers built an 8-2 lead in the second quarter behind Gillespie and Massimo Corvelli, who added four goals, before Sparta battled back to make it a two-goal game in the second half. Jace Stiansen scored four goals for the Spartans, but Mountain Lakes answered every late push and closed the game on a 4-1 run. The Lakers move on to face Delbarton in the Kirst Cup semifinals, while Sparta’s historic season comes to a close after winning the program’s first state championship.
