Delbarton 13 Mountain Lakes 11 | Kirst Cup Semifinal
Top-seed Delbarton survived a scare in Tuesday’s Kirst Cup semifinal, hanging on to defeat 4-seed Mountain Lakes 13-11 to advance to Thursday’s final. A back-and-forth affair for a majority of the action, the upset-minded Lakers held a 9-8 lead after three quarters. Then, the Green Wave answered back with three unanswered goals to make it 12-9 with 7:07 left in regulation. With under 3:00 to go, Mountain Lakes’ Lawson Fagan and Owen Higgins scored their third goals of the game to cut it to 12-11. A Fagan shot with just over 1:00 left, though, was saved by Delbarton’s Matty McGinty and the Green Wave survived the upset bid.
Johns Hopkins commit Brandon Fodor, Cornell commit Christian Troczynski, and Brown commit Pierce Bolger each had hat tricks for Delbarton. Higgins, Fagan, and Holden Gillespie also scored hat tricks for the Lakers.
Delbarton will now face 2-seed Summit in the Kirst Cup final on Thursday at Kean University.
