Red Bank Regional wide receiver and 2015 SSZ Zoneman Trophy Finalist Sadiq Palmer has given a verbal commitment to the UMass Minutemen and will make it official on February 3rd on National Signing Day

Sadiq Palmer has made his college choice — again.  After originally committing to the University of Syracuse, Palmer is now on his way to Amherst, Massachusetts to play for the UMass Minutemen.  Palmer re-opened his recruiting after head coach Scott Shafer was fired.  SSZ received confirmation from recruiting analyst Chris Melvin was the first to report on Palmer’s commitment to the Minutemen.  Palmer had 48 catches for 660 yards and 7 TD’s for the Bucs helping RBR reach the state finals at Rutgers before a loss to Rumson-Fair Haven and an 11-1 record in his senior season.  Palmer had quite a week – starting with scoring his 1000th career point in basketball and then heading on campus to Amherst for an official visit this weekend and making his verbal commitment.

UMass has come into the Shore Conference and taken two of its top players.  Palmer joins Ocean Township running back Tyler Thompson who is also set to sign with UMass on February 3rd.  Palmer and Thompson were three finalists for Shore Sports Zone’s Zoneman Trophy, an award won by Boston College quarterback Anthony Brown.  Created by SSZ owner and managing editor Rich Chrampanis in South Carolina, former winners of the trophy include Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Lawrence Timmson, Florida State quarterback Everett Golson and Clemson wide receiver Hunter Renfrow.

Palmer becomes the fifth Shore Conference football player to give a verbal commitment this weekend.  Here’s the full list of Shore Conference commits in Division I football.  Please email rich@shoresportszone.com with any updates.
