Former RBC head football coach Frank Edgerly returns to the Caseys after spending seven years in the NFL with the New England Patriots and Cleveland Browns

There have been only three head coaches in over 40 years of football at Red Bank Catholic and the number will stay at three.  That’s because Frank Edgerly, the head coach of the Caseys from 1999 through 2008 has returned to the high school ranks after after seven seasons working in the National Football League.  Edgerly had a 54-43 record in his time with RBC and left at the end of the 2008 season to join Greg Schiano’s staff at Rutgers as a Director of Recruiting Operations.  The NFL came calling next starting with a scouting position with the New England Patriots from 2009 through 2013.  Edgerly then went on to join the Cleveland Browns as a scout, eventually working over to the coaching staff working with the wide receivers.  Edgerly left the Browns organization after Hue Jackson was hired as head football coach and brought his own staff with him.

Edgerly replaces Jim Portela, who resigned last week after he announced that he would return full time in the professional world of finance.  Red Bank Catholic finished 8-3 in 2015, losing to Saint John Vianney in the state semifinals.  The Caseys will have big holes to fill starting with the departure of two Division I signees in quarterback Eddie Hahn (UConn) and All-American offensive lineman Liam Smith (Duke).  Click here to visit SSZ’s RBC team page and see our highlights from the 2015 RBC football season
