Middletown South 4 Vernon 3

Mike Racioppi had a pair of third period goals including the game winner from the point on a power play to give the Eagles a quality win over the Vikings.  Vernon made the one hour, 45 minute trip from up North and the two teams played playoff level hockey on Friday morning in Middletown.  Nick Lioudakis had two goals for the Eagles, who are now 7-2 and own a three game win streak.  Vernon had a 2-1 lead through two periods and had a three minute power play early in the third period.  The tide turned when Racioppi found the puck in the neutral zone and skated in on a breakaway delivering a wrist shot that clanked off the crossbar to tie the game at 2.  Lioudakis gave South the lead on a diving goal in the third period, but Eric Loughren drew Vernon even with six minutes to go.  Racioppi’s power play goal from the point through traffic proved to be the game winner.  Watch the highlights and post-game reaction from a great game:
