Pennington 4 St. Benedict’s Prep 3 | 2023 New Jersey Prep Tournament Final

The Red Hawks were no stranger to their opponents on the other side of the pitch and showed they were finally ready to take down their longtime rivals.

Pennington (16-0) captured a magnificent and program-changing win Wednesday night on the campus of Princeton University. They secured an elusive state title by ending No. 1 nationally ranked St. Benedict’s (14-1) spectacular 103-match unbeaten streak.

The Red Hawks were the last team to defeat the Gray Bees, which happened seven years ago in the 2016 Prep A final.

Matty Lynch, Thomas Sharkey, Alvaro Carnicer Cozar and Bacary Tandjigora all scored for Pennington in a wild, back-and-forth battle between two elite programs.

St. Benedict’s was paced by the usual suspects – Ransford Gyan, Amado Hann and Felix Agyemeng each tallied goals in the loss.
