Michael O’Connell made national recruiting headlines this week as he jumped from being a Big 10 lacrosse commit to being the newest point guard at a PAC 12 program.

It’s not very often you see the two-sport combination of basketball and lacrosse, but Blair Academy senior Michael O’Connell has made it work.

O’Connell — a Maryland lacrosse commit since the ninth grade — announced earlier this week his decision to decommit from the Terrapins and sign his National Letter of Intent with Stanford University to play college basketball in the PAC 12.

O’Connell, from way of Mineola, New York, put up 18 points per game this season as the Buccaneers won their second-straight Mid-Atlantic Prep League championship.

He sat down with JSZ’s Jay Cook and touched on his recruitment, his unique decision, what makes both sports similar and what the Cardinal fans can expect from their newest point guard:

O’Connell was featured on JSZ earlier this spring when we published his senior season highlight reel. Watch it here!
