Landmark win totals on the high school level are made possible by three things: great coaching, dedicated student athletes and supportive administrations. It would be an understatement to say Jill Cosse has had all of that in her successful and impressive tenure as the head field hockey coach at West Essex.

Cosse entered Tuesday’s game against Montclair Kimberley with 499 career wins and reached the milestone 500 career win mark thanks to an 8-0 victory over the Cougars.

West Essex – the consensus No. 1 ranked team in New Jersey – improved to 5-0 on the young season. They’ve only allowed one goal all through two weeks of competition.

Cosse celebrated the achievement with alumni, former players and loved ones in the stands rooting her on. Now in her 25th season, her career record stands at 500-41-12.
