The NJSIAA sectional baseball playoffs are officially underway, and JSZ has cameras all over the state to capture the action from the first round!


Marlboro 11 Monroe 4 | Central Group 4

(9) Marlboro kicked off the opening round of the Central Group 4 playoffs with an 11-4 upset victory over (8) Monroe (14-7). Tied at 4-4 heading into the top of the seventh, the Mustangs rallied to score seven runs. Alex Jankowski, Mark Capell and Nick Wright each finished with 2 RBIs for Marlboro. They take on top seed Manalapan in the quarterfinals.

Somerville 20 Warren Hills 3 | North 2 Group 3

An explosive 14-run third inning powered three-seed Somerville (19-3) past Warren Hills (6-12). It was the ‘Ville’s 14th consecutive win while pushing them into the next round of the state playoffs. Karson Wengryn (4 RBI’s), Timmy Wright (4 RBI’s) and Eric Knapp (3 RBI’s) all had a hand in Somerville’s most lopsided victory of the season. The Pioneers advance to face Chatham at home on Saturday in the sectional quarterfinals.

Delsea 8 Oakcrest 1 | South Group 2

Solid pitching and timely hitting helped propel the sixth-seeded Crusaders to a round one victory in South Group 2. Sophomore starter Ryan Harrison kept the 11th-seeded Falcons off-balance all afternoon, scattering six hits, and racking up nine strikeouts in a complete game victory. Landon Burns came through with a two-RBI double in the sixth to cap off a great day from the plate for Delsea (17-7). Sean Lynch knocked in the lone run on the day in the loss for Oakcrest (10-13). Delsea will now face third-seeded Audubon in the Group 2 South quarterfinals.

Egg Harbor Township 5 Shawnee 1 | South Group 4

Rutgers commit Justin Sweeney threw a complete game three-hitter to send the Eagles into the South Jersey Group 4 quarterfinals. The sophomore Sweeney finished with six strikeouts in the win. Ethan Dodd drove in a run for EHT (19-4), which will face Clearview in the next round. Drew Uccello drove in the only run of the game for the Renedades (13-6).
