Chatham 4 Northern Highlands 1 | Public “B” Semifinal

Matt Nacinovich had two goals and an assist and Doyle Curry scored on a rare 5-on-3 shorthanded goal as part of a three-goal second period to give the Cougars a stunner over the defending state champs.  Following a scoreless first period, Nacinovich scored a pair of goals 25 seconds apart to put Chatham up 2-0.   Later in the period, Northern Highlands had a two-man advantage for a full two minutes.  Nacinovich was able to clear the puck into open ice and had a two-on-none with Curry, who scored into an empty net.  Nate May had 30 saves in the win.

Middletown North 2 Ramapo 1 | Public “B” Semifinal

Jack Turner’s goal with 3:01 left in the third period on an end-to-end rush gave the Lions a return trip to the Prudential Center and the Public “B” state finals.  Joey Wall got the scoring started early in the first period for North, with Ramapo’s Danny Mauriber scoring his 26th to tie the game in the first period.  It stayed deadlocked until Turner’s heroics.  Luke Chrzan had 37 saves including a couple of key stops in the closing moments to seal the victory.  Middletown North will face Chatham for the Public “B” state championship this Monday at the Rock.
