Trip Pendy scored a pair of goals including a shorthanded tally in the second period as Delbarton ended the remarkable 35-game unbeaten streak by the defending state champions. It’s the first time in 675 days that the Colts suffered a loss on the ice going 32-0-3 in that span. After Thomas Mantellino tied the game early in the second, Green Wave freshman Liam Donnelly took advantage of a misplayed pass and scored on a breakaway to give Delbarton a 2-1 lead. Pendy added his second of the game on the shorthanded goal to make it 3-1 through two periods. Jason Cai had 28 saves and Jack Gerne sealed it with an empty netter. These two teams will meet later in the regular season and there’s still a chance they could square off in both the Gordon Cup and state playoffs.
