Hillsborough 7 Phillipsburg 0| North 2 Group 4 Opening Round

(2) Hillsborough advances to the North 2, Group 4 Quarterfinals following a 7-0 First Round win over (15) Phillipsburg. The Raiders capitalized on errors and back to back walks in the third to lead 4-0 early. They would add three more runs on RBI’s from Lilly McDonough, Claire Marcinek and Kayla Chess to go ahead 7-0 in the fifth inning. New Jersey’s newest member of the 1,000 strikeout club, senior Sarah Davenport pitched seven innings allowing just two hits, zero earned runs and struck out 15 batters.

Mainland 6 Hammonton 4 | South Group 3 Opening Round

Denver Obermeyer hit a home run and finished with four RBIs to lead the 10th-seeded Mustangs to victory over the 7th-seeded Blue Devils. Bella D’Agostino struck out seven in a complete game effort in the circle for Mainland (10-10). Jadyn Barker went 2-3 with an RBI for Hammonton (8-13) in the loss.

Southern 5 Toms River North 2 | South Group 4 Opening Round

The Rams leaned on their defensive late open the SJ Group 4 playoffs with a win over the Mariners. Kylie Roberts and Madison Groschel-Klein drove in runs in the win. Emily Evans piled up seven strikeouts in a complete game in the circle for five-seed Southern (17-8). Makiyah Ross had a two RBI single in the loss for twelve-seed Toms River North (9-14). The Rams advance to the quarterfinals to face four-seed Cherokee on Friday.

Colts Neck 10 Middletown South 0 (5 innings) | Central Jersey Group 3 Opening Round

Cassidy Relay went 3-3 with 3 runs and five stolen bases and freshman Gabriella Bryce had 2 hits and 3 RBIs to lead a dominating effort for the top seed in Central Jersey Group 3.  Angela Sasso struck out 10 in five shutout innings as the Cougars will host Lawrence in the second round of the state softball playoffs.
