Gavin Kovacs came through with a game-winning RBI double in the bottom of the eighth as the Blue Devils won a thrilling first round matchup in the 50th Joe Hartmann Diamond Classic. Kole Bagnell tied the game with two outs in the seventh inning in the victory for 15-seed Hammonton (13-1). Greg Rutolo drove in a pair of runs for 18-seed Haddon Heights (7-5). The Blue Devils notched their 13th-straight win to advance to face the winner of Collingswood and Kingsway in a second-round matchup later this week.

Vinny Berardi pitched a one-hitter walking just one and striking out seven and the Golden Eagles had an 18 hit barrage under the lights at Ken Frank Stadium to pick up their second win of the season. Cristian Soto was 4-4 with 3 runs and 2 RBI’s and Jack Tietjen had 3 RBI’s as part of the Central Regional hit parade.
