Ridgewood 9 Mendham 8 | Girls
No. 4 Ridgewood girls lacrosse (9-3) broke their two-game losing streak in thrilling fashion Tuesday as the Maroons defeated No. 10 Mendham (6-3) 9-8, despite a late Minutemen surge. Ridgewood led 9-5 at the start of the fourth quarter, but a player-up situation led to two quick goals by Mendham to cut the game to two. Then, Cristiana Laracca scored her second goal of the game with 4:13 left in regulation to make it a 9-8 game.
With under 20 seconds remaining, the Minutemen got a key steal and Mele brought the ball past half and all the way down to the Ridgewood net, but she was fouled. With one second left, her free position shot was saved by Ridgewood junior goalie Nora O’Connor to clinch the win! Sophomore Delaney McCrone led the Maroons with three goals while Katie Adams and Stella Cuneo each had two. Mele, Vanderbilt commit Lexi Alofs, and Laracca each had two for Mendham.
