JSZ kicks off the NJ soccer season with a handful of great opening day games!

St. Benedict’s Prep 3 Delbarton 0 | Boys

The Gray Bees (2-0) come into the 2022 season as the No. 2 nationally-ranked team in the country and certainly looked like they deserve that billing after a gritty win over a perennial New Jersey state champion in Delbarton (0-1). Martin Pulgarin, Devon Rushmore and Ransford Gyan each buried goals in the win while GK Marcilio Soares kept the Green Wave off the board with a number of saves.

JSZ’s Jay Cook has the highlights from Newark:

The Panthers (1-0) trailed 1-0 at halftime, but equalized early in the second half thanks to a goal from Landon Osmundsen. Steven Berrodin drew a penalty kick with less than a minute left in regulation, and scored from the spot to give Middle a thrilling win to start the season. J.T. Waddell scored the lone goal for the Blue Devils (0-1) in the loss.

JSZ’s Mike Frankel has the highlights:

Freehold Township 1 Middletown South 0 | Girls

Hailey Santiago’s goal in the 62nd minute was the lone goal of a fantastic match between Shore Conference foes.  Santiago took a feed from Ainsley Moy and make a fantastic run of over 50 yards that was capped off with a right-foot strike from 12 yards out.
