Week 2 kicks off with some terrific games around the Garden State!  Check out all the highlights from Thursday night football


Rumson-Fair Haven 40 Holmdel 28 | Shore Conference

Brady Williams had 301 yards of total offense with five touchowns and the RFH defense produced four turnovers to win a wild Thursday night shootout in Holmdel.  Williams was 17 of 28 for 230 yards and two touchdown passes to go along with 71 yards on the ground and three scores.  Ryder Izzo ran for 151 yards on 24 carries including a 29-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter to put the game away.  Holmdel got 100 yards rushing and two TD’s from Mike Todisco and a sensational 13 catch, 180 yard effort from Anthony Serini with two TD catches.  Rumson-Fair Haven is 3-0 while Holmdel drops to 2-1.

Shawnee 35 Cherry Hill East 13 | West Jersey Football League

Cole Anderson delivered a sensational performance to power the Renegades past the Cougars for head coach Tim Gushue’s 300th career victory. Anderson rushed for 274 yards and three touchdowns to lead the way for Shawnee (3-0). Josh Greenberg rushed for a touchdown, while Judah Niv connected from 47 yards for one of his two field goals in the loss for Cherry Hill East (0-3). Tim Gushue, in his 44th season at Shawnee (300-151-6), became the fourth South Jersey coach to reach 300 career wins. He also joins Lou Vircillo of Lacey as the only other active coach in the Garden State currently in the 300-wins club.

Ramapo 43 Ridgewood 24 | Super Football Conference

JSZ’s Ryan Sudol has the highlights and reaction from Franklin Lakes:

Ramapo (2-1) bounced back huge from their Week 1 loss to Old Tappan with a 43-24 win over Ridgewood (2-1) on Thursday night. After giving up an Anthony Chase 95-yard touchdown run and QB Luke Magerko throwing two interceptions early, the Raiders turned things around with 20 unanswered points in the second quarter with a Cole Seyffer 70-yard touchdown reception, a Joey Gorga 28-yard touchdown run, and a blocked punt touchdown recovered in the end zone by Tyler Sorafine. They continued in the second half with Gorga scoring twice more, and Villanova commit Jack Schneider adding his first offensive touchdown of his career.

Gorga was the player of the game for the Raiders as the junior put up 151 rushing yards on 27 carries and three touchdowns, all career highs in his first year as a starter.

Wall 15 Manalapan 12 | Shore Conference

Mike Boulard scored from two yards out with :25 seconds remaining and the Crimson Knights added a two point conversion to christen its new stadium with a come from behind win against Manalapan.  The Braves (2-1) opened the game with a 76 yard kickoff return by PJ Pape and followed it with a safety to take a 9-0 lead at the end of one.  Boulard had a six yard TD run to make it 9-7 and Manalapan’s Brandon Kaplan booted a field goal to make it a 12-7 game at the half.  Wall improves to 2-1 with the big home opener win.

Old Bridge 21 South Brunswick 0 | Big Central Conference

Chase Rizzo and the Old Bridge (2-1) defense put together a stifling performance to lead the Knights to a National Gold Division victory over South Brunswick (1-2). Rizzo accounted for all three of Old Bridge’s touchdowns, scoring twice on the ground and once through the air. He also made an impact defensively, recording two sacks, while Griffin Nugent came up with a career-best two interceptions.

Westwood 22 Ramsey 20 | Super Football Conference

Ramsey (2-1) jumped out to a 14-0 lead, but Westwood (2-1) answered with a huge comeback to even things up by halftime and march on to a 22-20 victory.  QB Bruno Vega led the way, accounting for a rushing touchdown and a score through the air while making plays all night with his arm and his legs.

Lenape 3 Cherokee 0 | West Jersey Football League

An Anthony Conti field goal was enough to decide this defensive slugfest between bitter rivals. Kellen Pierce and Malik Gadson both had interceptions to help lead the Indians (2-1). Ben Stillwagon had an interception for Cherokee (1-2) in the loss.
