Scotch Plains-Fanwood 9 Westfield 8 (OT) | Boys | Union County Tournament Semifinal
No. 10 Scotch Plains-Fanwood boys lacrosse are Union County Tournament finalists for the first time in program history, and they accomplished the feat in an instant classic Thursday night. The Raiders defeated No. 11 Westfield 9-8 in overtime, snapping the defending UCT champs’ 13-year final appearance streak.
After two goals from Nate Filler and Noah Brown in the final minute of the 3rd quarter, SP-F held a 7-6 lead going into the final frame. Colin Kochanowicz then made it 8-6 off a man-up goal early in the 4th, but Westfield’s Harrison Rekemeier scored with around 5:30 remaining and Patrick Smith cashed in with 1:00 to go to send it to OT. On the first possession, Kochanowicz hurled a pass from past midfield to Brian Koepfler who found Nick Homer for his second goal of the game to send everybody home.
Kochanowicz, Filler, and Homer each had two goals on the night for the Raiders while Rekemeier and Kieran Gerne had two for Westfield. The Raiders now move to Saturday’s UCT final vs. No. 3 Summit at 7:00pm at Arthur L. Johnson High School in Clark.
