Trips to the Non-Public sectional finals were up for grabs around the Garden State on Thursday night. Paul VI and St. John Vianney delivered an instant classic in girls basketball, plus Roselle Catholic and Morris Catholic collide in a sectional semifinal rematch in boys hoops. Roselle Catholic 85 Morris Catholic 73 | Boys | Non-Public “B” North Semifinal
A season ago, Roselle Catholic lost to Morris Catholic in the Non-Public “B” North Semifinal. This year, the Lions got their revenge on the back of a 39 point performance from junior Trevon Lewis. In a game filled with plenty of dunks and runs, second-seeded Roselle Catholic (22-6) ended third-seeded Morris Catholic’s (25-5) 17 game win streak. Lewis put up a career-high of 39, while Tyrease Hunter added 18 points and 10 rebounds. Roselle Catholic will face Gill St. Bernard’s for the Non-Public “B” North championship on Monday at John F. Kennedy High School.

Paul VI 56 St. John Vianney 52 (OT) | Girls | Non-Public “A” South Semifinal
Kiyanna Blacks-Stewart battled through foul trouble but delivered the biggest four points of her career when her team needed her the most. The Hofstra commit scored in the waning seconds of regulation to force overtime, then hit the go-ahead basket in OT to give the Eagles the lead for good. Brooke Stagliano went for a team-high 19 points, while Rachel Thatcher added 15 points in the win for top-seeded Paul VI (26-0). Stella Lockhart was magnificent for fourth-seeded St. John Vianney (22-7), finishing with a game-high 24 points. Paul VI will face Red Bank Catholic for the Non-Public “A” South championship on Monday at Lenape High School.
