JSZ kicks off the 2023-24 high school hockey season with some great matchups around the Garden State. Check back throughout the night as the highlights are posted!


Middletown South 4 Middletown North 2

Timmy Gorlenko’s first varsity goal early in the third period broke a 2-2 tie and junior Griffin Koske added a big insurance goal to give the Eagles a win over their crosstown rival.  South raced out to a 2-0 lead in the first period before the Lions scored two straight to set the stage for a dramatic third period.  These two teams will meet once again in the regular season finale for the Mayor’s Cup.

Randolph 6 Morristown 2

No. 20 Randolph begins the Ice Hockey season with a dominating 6-2 win over Morristown as sophomore Vincent Crisafulli scored a hat trick and recorded an assist. Crisafulli’s scores came three minutes into the first period, followed by a pair of goals in the second. Fellow sophomores Shane and Keegan Melly along with junior Jase Zangara each found net for scores, Shane Melly also had an assist.

St. Augustine 5 La Salle (PA) 1

The defending Non-Public state champion Hermits left no doubt in their season opener as they powered past the reigning Pennsylvania 3A state champs. Robert Romarino netted a pair of goals to lead the way for St. Augustine. Grayson Esposito, Kalib Capecci, and Dale Curtis all scored goals in the victory. Patrick Brace scored the lone goal of the afternoon for the Explorers.
