Welcome back, basketball season! It’s opening night on the hardwood and JSZ has coverage from all over New Jersey!


The Patrick School 62 St. Rose 59 | Boys

The Celtics and Purples Roses went to war in an opening day showdown that lived up to the hype featuring two of the best programs in New Jersey. Jaysean Williams sank a go-ahead three-pointer with :29 seconds left in regulation to put The Patrick School (7-0) in front for good. The Celtics had four players score in double digits to power the win, including 10 points from St. John’s commit Jaiden Glover. St. Rose (0-1) got an A+ performance from senior Villanova commit Matt Hodge, who led all players with a game-high 30 points in the loss.

St. Benedict’s 45 Roselle Catholic 41 | Boys

No. 6 St. Benedict’s picked up their first win of the season following a close 45-41 victory over reigning Non-Public B Champions No. 8 Roselle Catholic. St. Benedict’s leading for the entire first half entered the break in front 24-19. However, the Gray Bees missed their final seven shots of the third quarter and the score was tied 29-29 entering the fourth. Benedict’s would prevail late as Bergen Catholic transfer and four star recruit, sophomore Chidi Nwigwe finished with 14 points while senior David Johnson connected from long distance for 16 points and five three pointers.

Ocean City 66 Wildwood Catholic 61 | Boys

The Red Raiders led by double digits at the break, before falling behind early in the fourth quarter. Charlie LaBarre hit two big buckets down the stretch to help OC grind out a tough win on opening night. LaBarre finished with 15 points in the win. Kori Segich had a game-high 21 points, while Dylan Schlatter scored 20 points for OC (1-0). Alex Daniel scored a team-high 17 points for the Crusaders (0-1) in the loss.

Lenape 57 Bishop Eustace 46 | Boys

The Indians aced their first test of the season in an opening night win against the Crusaders. Aaron “Ace” Lassiter scored ten of his thirteen points in the second quarter as Lenape built a 14-point halftime lead. Merrimack commit Tye Dorset and Myles Primas each had a team-high 16 points in the win. Tommy Semiraglo score a game-high 18 points in the loss for Bishop Eustace.
