Expectations for rough weather this weekend forced teams to move sectional championship football games around the schedule. That resulted in a pair of games to be played on Thursday night. Watch as Northern Highlands wins their third straight sectional title in dramatic fashion and West Orange wins the program’s first ever title!


Northern Highlands 49 Ramapo 42 (OT) | North 1 Group 4 Final

Look no further if you want to find 2022’s football Game of the Year. Northern Highlands (8-3) defeated rivals Ramapo (8-3) in an instant classic Thursday night. A four-hour-long game resulted in Northern Highlands’ third consecutive sectional title. They had to battle through two power blackouts to capture one incredible win. JR Walley connected with Danny Smiechowski for the Highlanders’ go-ahead touchdown in overtime. The Raiders were looking to tie the game, but Zach Chostaka forced a fumble that was recovered by Roman Dario to secure the win.

West Orange 28 Phillipsburg 7 | North 2 Group 5 Final

Sixth-seeded West Orange made history by winning the program’s first ever North 2, Group 5 Title with a 28-7 upset win over top seed Phillipsburg to hand the Stateliners their first loss of the season. The Mountaineers led 14-0 after the first quarter following touchdowns from Illinois commit Saboor Karriem and quarterback Amir Stewart. With a three possession lead in the fourth quarter, a late pick six by Jarvis Jones would seal the game.
