Haddonfield 44 Paulsboro 26

The Haddons raced out to 20-0 lead after the first quarter and never looked back, spoiling Kevin Harvey’s coaching debut for the Red Raiders. Declan McCarthy threw for four touchdowns and ran for a score to lead the way for Haddonfield (1-0). Rocco Pellegrini threw three touchdown passes to Preston Moore for Paulsboro (0-1) in the loss.

St. Joe’s (Mont.) 35 DePaul Catholic 31

The latest chapter in the St. Joseph/DePaul rivalry did not disappoint as Joe’s pulled out a close 36-31 victory thanks to a 157 yard, three touchdown performance from running back Yasin Willis. Despite trailing 36-10 in the third quarter, DePaul rallied behind junior quarterback Patrick Grusser to bring the game within five in the final four minutes of regulation. Grusser ended the afternoon with 272 yards of offense and four touchdowns.

Toms River North 40  Rumson Fair Haven 27 | Rumble on the Raritan

Micah Ford and the Mariners ran wild at Rutgers University to snap RFH’s eleven-game winning streak in season openers. Ford rushed for 279 yards and five touchdowns to lead the way for Toms River North (2-0). Nasir Jackson got in on the action with a 99-yard kick return touchdown in the win. Owen O’Toole threw for a pair of touchdowns in the loss for Rumson-Fair Haven (0-1).

St. John Vianney 28 Colts Neck 21

Kyle Verriest had two touchdowns including the game-winner with :26 left on a 21-yard run to give Jeff Papcun his first win as Lancers varsity football coach.  Chris Scully had three TD runs in a loss for the Cougars who tied the game with 1:29 to go in the fourth quarter.

St. Joseph’s Prep (PA) 55 St. Peter’s Prep 20 | Rumble on the Raritan

St. Joseph’s Prep junior quarterback Samaj Jones accounted for 454 total yards and eight total touchdowns in a blowout win over one of the best teams in New Jersey. Jones launched six first-half touchdown passes and powered the Hawks (0-1) out to a 49-13 lead at the half. Champ Long was 11 passes on 23 attempts for 198 yards and three touchdowns through the air in the loss for St. Peter’s (1-1).
