JSZ closes out a tremendous week of football with a jam-packed Saturday slate across New Jersey!


Passaic Tech 13 Union City 6 | Zone6x High School Classic

The Bulldogs’ stingy defense and potent rushing attack was on full display in their commanding win on the grounds of historic Hinchliffe Stadium. Passaic Tech (2-0) logged their second defensive shutout so far this season thanks to a five-turnover day. Syracuse commit Trashon Dye paced the offense with 138 rushing yards and two scores on the ground. Union City (0-1) had their lone score come from a Denzel Chavis kick-return touchdown on the game’s opening kickoff.

Millville 34 Irvington 0 | Non-Conference

The Thunderbolts avenged last season’s loss to the Blue Knights with a stellar defensive effort from the opening kick. Joey Zamot returned a fumble for a touchdown, while Lotzeir Brooks scored on a 70-yard pick-six in the win. Jamal Wallace Jr. and Demere White added rushing touchdowns for Millville (1-1). Jachai Littlejohn had a forced fumble and a fumble recovery in the loss for Irvington (0-2).

Bernards 28 Hillside 12 | Big Central Conference

Bernards (2-0) begins the year with two straight wins following a 28-12 victory over rival Hillside (0-1). The Mountaineers trailing 6-3 after the first quarter, tied the game at 12-12 heading into halftime. Bernards would score 16 unanswered points in the second half as quarterback Connor Laverty went 11-17 passing for 119 yards, a passing touchdown, 15 rushing attempts for 100 rushing yards and had an additional rushing touchdown. Head Coach Jon Simoneau earned career win number 100.

Marlboro 16 St. John Vianney 7 | Shore Conference

Luke Houston had a key interception and scored on a nine-yard TD catch in the fourth quarter to give the Mustangs an opening week victory for a third straight year.  Following a scoreless half, Marlboro took the lead on a Luke Rubin field goal and Brayden Klein’s TD pass to Mike Consolazio in the third quarter that was set up by the Houston TD.  Following a 17-yard TD by SJV freshman Abdul Turay, Marlboro was able to seal the win with Houston’s TD grab in the fourth.
