It’s Opening Day on the diamond and JSZ has thrilling highlights to begin the season from all over the Garden State!

Rumson-Fair Haven 3 Red Bank Catholic 2

Brayden Dill’s RBI single up the middle in the bottom of the 7th gave RFH a walk-off win over the preseason #1 team in the state.  RBC starter Alex Stanyek threw six shutout innings with 13 strikeouts leaving the game after 100 pitches.  RFH rallied with two walks and a hit-by-pitch to load the bases with nobody out in the bottom of the 7th.  Cade LaGrassa hit a double to right center for the Bulldogs second hit of the game plating two runs to tie the game.  Dill stepped in one batter later to win the game for Rumson.  RBC took a 2-0 lead on a two-run homer by Alabama commit Sean Griggs.  RFH starter John Goodes struck out eight batters in 5.1 innings giving up just two hits and two runs.

Steinert 3 Notre Dame 2

Steinert begins the year 1-0 following a thrilling 3-2 win over CVC Colonial Division rival Notre Dame. A game that was tied 2-2 in the second inning did not see another run until the bottom of the seventh when senior Danny Maher scored on a wild pitch in the dirt to lead the Spartans to victory. Several defensive plays from outfielder Ryan Everett, who went 1-3 with an RBI were vital for Steinert late in the game.
