Opening Day has finally arrived – albeit with some wet weather. Our team of MMJ’s navigated the flooded fields to bring in some opening day action. Stay tuned as we post highlights from RBC’s big win and a draw in Essex County!
Seton Hall Prep 1 Montclair 1 (8 innings)
For the second year in a row, the Pirates and Mounties fight out to an opening day draw in – this time coming in eight innings. Peter Peulso went 2-3 with an RBI for Seton Hall Prep while Montclair’s lone run came from a fielding error following a single from Mack Mathisen. The game was suspended in extra innings due to darkness. Seton Hall Prep lefty Lucas Fernandez pitched 4.1 innings of scoreless relief while four different pitchers in Montclair’s bullpen etched five shutout innings.

Declan Leary pitched a complete game three-hitter with no walks and five strikeouts and Al Delia belted his first varsity home run as part of the Caseys seven run output on opening day. Delia, who gained viral fame during the 2018 Little League Regional World Series proclaiming that he hits dingers got his first dinger as a Casey with a blast to left center. Dylan Passo made a tremendous play at first base with a diving catch to save two runs and the Caseys added three insurance runs from there.
