The final day of the 2022-2023 winter season is here. We finish it off with a five-pack of hockey state championships from the Prudential Center in Newark. Stay tuned as we bring you highlights + interviews from each game as the day rolls along.

Gov. Livingston 5 Woodbridge Twp. 4 (4OT) | Public C State Championship

Jeremy Siksnius’ game-winning goal in the fourth overtime was the finishing touch in the longest state championship hockey game in New Jersey. Gov. Livingston (16-5-4) defended their Public C state championship in a valiant effort – this title game lasted just shy of three hours. Brian Kramer had a pair of goals and an assist in the win for GL. For Woodbridge Twp. (19-1-1), it’s a heartbreaking way to end a breakthrough 2022-233 season. Both Ryan Lukko and Hubert Polchlopek scored their 100th points in the loss.

 Morristown-Beard 2 Pingry 1 | Girls’ State Championship

The Crimson have the first dynasty in New Jersey high school hockey. Morristown-Beard (15-6-3) won its third straight girls’ state championship thanks to another marquis game from Bruce Driver’s club. Lilli Warnock and Kailin Kane scored both goals in the win, but it was Mo-Beard’s goaltending that made the difference. An equipment malfunction in the pregame thrusted freshman Hannah Mortazavi into the crease during the first period, and senior Gracie Meyers returned in the second period to finish out the game.

JSZ’s Jay Cook has the story:

Jersey Sports Zone’s coverage of Pingry is brought to you by Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in Somerset.

Middletown North 3 Chatham 2 | Public B State Championship

Chris Imbriale’s first goal of the season 5:47 into the third was the game-winner and Luke Chrzan made some key stops late on the way to a 30-save game to give the Lions their second state hockey championship in school history.  Lachlan Haeger gave North a 1-0 lead in the first before Ronan and Doyle Curry scored goals :47 seconds apart in the second to give the Cougars a 2-1 lead. Joey Wall’s goal tied the game at two setting the stage for the third period drama.

Ridge 5 Hillsborough 2 | Public A State Championship

Without their star player on the ice, the Red Devils once again showed why they have a program worthy of a championship. Ridge (16-7-4) downed Skyland Conference rival Hillsborough (16-9-2) to win its second straight Public A championship. Ben McCain led the way on Monday night with a pair of goals in the victory.

St. Augustine 3 Delbarton 2 (OT)| Non-Public State Championship

Enzo Fanelli’s second goal of the game came just 11 seconds into overtime to give the #7 seed a third straight stunning upset to win the Non-Public state championship.  Nick Faccone had a pair of goals for Delbarton.  Faccone’s second of the game came in the opening minute of the second period to give the Green Wave a 2-1 lead.  In the final minute of the second, Ryan Vaites tied the game at two.  Both goalies shined in the third period with Jason Cai of Deblarton and the Hermits Bobby Kennedy keeping the game deadlocked setting the stage for Fanelli’s quick strike off a Kai Ackerman feed in OT.  St. Augustine wins its first state title since 2007 and beats the top three seeds to hoist the trophy at the Rock.
