Monroe 1 South Brunswick 1 (5-4) PK’s | Boys | Greater Middlesex Conference Tournament Final

(1) Monroe defeated (2) South Brunswick in PK’s 1-1 (5-4) to capture their eighth Greater Middlesex Conference Tournament Title. The Falcons trailing 1-0 late in regulation were able to force overtime with a goal from Alton Nikezi in the 73rd minute. Penalties overshadowed the contest; 19 yellow cards and four red cards were issued, forcing both teams to make changes for PK’s. Back up goalie Kumeil Kagalwala stopped two shots from South Brunswick, allowing keeper Justin Graham to sinks a pair of scores, Derek Alfonso’s goal would then lead the Falcons to victory for their second Conference Championship in three years.

Monroe 1 East Brunswick 0 OT | Girls | Greater Middlesex Conference Tournament Final

80 minutes was not enough for the Greater Middlesex Conference Tournament Girls Soccer Final as Jen Ward’s deep shot in the opening minute of overtime led (1) Monroe to a 1-0 victory over defending Champions, (2) East Brunswick for the program’s first ever GMC Title.

St. Augustine 6 Mainland 2 | Boys | Cape-Atlantic League Tournament Final

The Hermits started fast and never looked back on their way to a second-straight CAL Tournament championship. Alex Clark led the way with a pair of goals and an assist for top-seeded St. Augustine (15-1). Sal Coppola, Drew Davis, Ryan Wieand, and John Paul Mazza netted goals in the win. Aidan Clark and Karim Aksenov scored in the loss for third-seeded Mainland (11-5-1).

St. Benedict’s Prep 11 Gill St. Bernard’s 0 | Prep Tournament Semifinal | Boys

Amadou Hann scored a first half hat trick to power the No. 1 nationally ranked Gray Bees to another appearance in the Prep Tournament championship. Star senior Ransford Gyan also scored and added two assists in the win, too. The victory sends St. Benedict’s Prep to the final – they await to see who their opponent is. Gill St. Bernard’s will now turn its focus to the Non-Public B state tournament – they’re the top seed in the North bracket.
