Immaculate Heart Academy vs. Donovan Catholic (10 Innings) | Non-Public A Championship
Donovan Catholic (27-1) defeated Immaculate Heart Academy (26-5) 8-7 to capture a second consecutive Non-Public A Title. The Griffins trailed 7-4 in the bottom of the seventh inning when Adriana Romano belted a three run home run, her second long ball of the day to tie the game. In the bottom of the tenth Emily Kruth drove in the game winning run on a sacrifice fly to left field. Romano went 3-4 for six RBI’s and also racked up eight strike outs while allowing just one earned run in relief.

Morris Catholic 2 St. Joseph Academy 0 | Non-Public B Championship
It’s not often that a first inning extra-base hit is the biggest knock of the game, but that sure was the case Friday afternoon. Morris Catholic’s Jess Brown hit a leadoff triple in the bottom of the first inning and would score on a Kate Heslin RBI single to set the tone for the Crusaders in the title game. Hannah Streicher and Carly Mockenhaupt combined to throw a two-hit shutout from the circle to preserve the victory.

Colts Neck 2 Cranford 0 | Group 3 Championship
Ava Metzger pitched a 2-hitter with 8 strikeouts and added an RBI double in the 7th to lead Colts Neck to its first softball state championship in school history. Melissa Deissler worked a bases-loaded walk in the 4th to give Colts Neck a 1-0 lead. Metzger, who was named Gatorade’s NJ player of the year earlier in the day, had two hits at the plate to go with her complete-game shutout and Cassidy Relay had three hits and two runs.
