Cherokee 35 Woodrow Wilson 0

In a battle between defending sectional champions, the Chiefs dominated from start to finish. Billy Osborn threw two touchdown passes and rushed for a score. Brandon Boria had a pair of touchdown runs. Mark Phillips added a touchdown catch and an interception in the win, while Ty Bartrum blocked a punt and had a TD catch as well.

Middletown South 32 Red Bank Catholic 25

Tom Schork had a 68-yard pick six and two TD runs engineering the Eagles option attack at QB as Middletown South upset the Caseys for a second straight year. The Eagles raced out to a 17-0 first quarter lead and had a 25-7 halftime advantage before the Caseys roared back to get within 25-22 thanks to a Sabino Portella TD run and an amazing one-handed TD catch by Najih Rahman. But Schork took advantage of a muffed punt and delivered what proved to be the game winning score with a 16-yard TD run in the fourth quarter.

Lenape 38 Eastern 7

After kicking off the season a week late due to positive Covid-19 tests, Lenape starts the year with a dominating 38-7 win over Eastern. University of Delaware commit Tyler Davis returned an interception for a touchdown to begin the game. The Indians tacked on 31 unanswered points thanks to a three score effort from Boston College-bound athlete Xavier Coleman. Davis would end the game with another interception. Northern Highlands 38 Ridgewood 10

The Super Football Conference’s Freedom Red Division is going to produce some fascinating matchups in 2020 – this was one of them. Both Northern Highlands and Ridgewood won sectional championships a year ago, but the Highlanders showed Friday they could be one of the best public programs in the entire state. The Highlanders’ defense forced four turnovers and a defensive score, while backup QB Kyle Major and tailback Nick Branca each scored a pair of TD’s on the night.

Williamstown 13 Kingsway 6

Senior night at Kingsway turned into a defensive battle as the Braves gutted out a close victory over the Dragons. Keon Sabb opened the scoring for Williamstown on a 72-yard touchdown pass from Dougie Brown. After that, both defenses stood tall for the remainder of the night, coming up with big play after big play. Turner Inge scored the game-winning touchdown after a poor snap on a punt by the Dragons gave the Braves the ball at the five yard-line near the end of the third quarter.

Red Bank Regional 36 JFK-Iselin 0

Owen Laughlin ran for over 100 yards and a rushing score to go along with two TD passes and two sacks on defense to lead RBR to its first win of 2020. JSZ’s Rich Chrampanis has the highlights from Little Silver:

Upset alert in Bridgewater! The Panthers take down the Farmers. Bridgewater comes up with a big goal line turnover to end the game. Brady Kurdyla lead the way for Bridgewater as he scored 3 rush TDs and 1 Pass TD. Desmond Igbinosun scored 2 TDs for Union in the loss. JSZ’s Kenneth Bradley has the highlights from Bridgewater:
