Jersey Sports Zone talked with the former Delbarton state baseball champ in New York City about his first season in the big leagues. Watch our feature now!
It wasn’t that long ago that Anthony Volpe was Delbarton’s shortstop and a lifelong fan of the New York Yankees. Now he’s part of Bronx Bombers lore as he was the first Yankees rookie with 20 HRs and 20 SBs in a season and the first rookie Gold Glove winner for the club. Those who saw him develop in his high school days in New Jersey saw the intense focus and dedication that Volpe now uses as he looks to improve on his .209 batting average and help the Yankees return to the post-season mix.
Jersey Sports Zone’s Rich Chrampanis and Jay Cook caught up with Volpe in New York City as he did a Gold Glove meet-and-greet appearance at the MLB store alongside Texas Rangers catcher Jonah Heim and Gold Glove legends Ozzie Smith and Keith Hernandez. Volpe reflected on his rookie season in the big leagues, talked about the honor of winning a Gold Glove and his strong ties with the New Jersey high school baseball community.
