Colleen Kelly scored a game-high five goals, including the golden goal with 31 seconds left in OT. The Monarchs will face Pingry on Thursday for the Central Group 1 title. (10) Clearview 16 (7) Millville 5 – South Group 4 First Round The 10th-seeded Pioneers fell behind 3-0 early before putting several crooked numbers on the board in an upset win over seventh-seeded Millville. Shawn Dougherty, Julian Costa, Ian Petrutz and Eric Weiss all had multiple RBIs in the win. Mike Baginski and Garrett Musey both homered for the Thunderbolts in the loss. It’s a championship Sunday on the diamond. The Hun Raiders made it four straight NJ Prep “A” state championships and Old Bridge topped South Brunswick to claim the Greater Middlesex Conference Tournament title. We’ve got highlights and post-game reaction from both championship games! Old Bridge 2 South Brunswick 1 – Greater Middlesex Conference Tournament Championship Old Bridge captured its first Greater Middlesex Conference Tournament Title since 2011 with a thrilling 2-1 victory over rival South Brunswick. The Knights fell behind 1-0 in the first off a balk, but quickly regrouped on offense to go ahead 2-1 on a fielder’s choice and error in the second inning. Senior Matt Baker who technically allowed the Viking’s only earned run had a different persona after shaking off the early blunder. Baker allowed just five hits and finished with six strikeouts. (4) Montclair 12 (2) Seton Hall Prep 1 – Greater Newark Tournament Final Conor McGrath picked the perfect time to have a career day. The Montclair leadoff man was a menace at the plate, belting a three-run inside-the-park home run while knocking in 6 RBI in the Mounties’ stellar 12-1 over Seton Hall Prep. Starting pitcher Kyle Miller went the distance with 5 IP and 5 K’s in the win. JSZ’s Jay Cook has the highlights from Verona: (4) Red Bank Catholic 3 (13) Howell 0 – Shore Conference Tournament 2nd Round Shane Panzini pitched five scoreless innings and Vin Bianchi came on in relief for two more scoreless frames as the Caseys used a three-run third to advance to the quarterfinals of the SCT. Alex Gonzalez had an RBI single and David Glancy roped an RBI double to left in the third. A wild pitch allowed Gonzalez to score the final run of the game. RBC will face #5 seed Jackson Memorial in the quarterfinals on Wednesday. The state lacrosse playoffs continued and JSZ has two games from the boys side – both of our games were one-goal affairs. Nery Rodriguez and Madison Bess brings us some exciting action from Saturday morning! (4) Westfield 9 (5) Bridgewater-Raritan 8 – Boys – North Group 4 Quarterfinal Round No. 20 in the NJ Top 20 Westfield advanced to the North Group 4 semifinal round with a tight 9-8 win over Bridgewater-Raritan. The Blue Devils got ahead early to take a 6-3 lead at halftime. However, Bridgewater-Raritan thanks to a pair scores from Jarrett Fought in the third cut it to an 8-6 deficit entering the fourth. The Panthers would eventually come within one score, but Westfield was able to hold their ground on defense and hang on for the victory. Devon McLane and Jake Engelke both finished with hat tricks. Immaculata Wins Somerset County Crown in 12 Inning Marathon
It might have taken twelve innings, four hours and six minutes and 370 pitches but Immaculata yet again reigns supreme in Somerset County. Junior Ryan Kabus stepped up with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 12th inning and delivered a bloop single to shallow right field for the walk-off hit in a 6-5 win over Ridge. Kabus also pitched seven innings and tossed over 100 pitches to become the winning pitcher, as well. The win gives Immaculata their 14th Somerset County trophy in program history. Allentown 11 Seneca 6 – Boys – South Group 2 Quarterfinal Fifth seed Allentown advanced to the South Group 2 Semifinals with an 11-6 victory over 13th-seeded Seneca. The Red Birds got some help from Jared Jordan early who had a hat trick in the first period to give them a 7-1 lead. Towards the end of the second and throughout the third quarter, Seneca started mounting a comeback to cut it to just 9-6 heading into the fourth. However Jared Jordan along with Clayton Moench tacked on a pair scores to keep the game out of reach for the Eagles. Moench and Peter Pinto ended the day with hat tricks while Jared Jordan had four goals including his 100th career goal. Allentown will face the winner of #8 Holmdel and #1 Rumson-Fair Haven in the semifinals on 5/22. No. 20 Delsea 5 Absegami 0 – Group 3 South Opening Round Diana Parker threw a complete game one-hitter, finishing with 16 strikeouts to lead the Crusaders to victory. Gianna Cava broke a scoreless tie in the fourth inning with a two-out single to score two runs. Briana Booras also had two RBIs in the win. Kaylin Flukey struck out four and had a double for the Braves in the loss. Steinert softball ends nine year county tournament drought
No. 7 Steinert 1 No. 12 Hightstown 0 – Mercer County Tournament Final No. 7 Steinert (3) defeated No. 12 Highstown (1) 1-0 to claim their first Mercer County Tournament Title since 2010. A pitching duel between Steinert’s Kaylee Whittaker and Hightstown’s Allie Bridgeman took center stage early. Whittaker had five strikeouts in the first two innings as Bridgeman had four. Bella Truelove drove in the only run of the game on an RBI single in the top of the third. The Spartans continued to hold onto that small lead thanks to the continued outstanding pitching from Kaylee Whittaker. Whittaker finished with just 2 hits allowed and racked up 17 strikeouts. Notre Dame Claims Ninth Mercer County Crown
No. 13 Notre Dame 9 Hopewell Valley – Mercer County Tournament Final No. 13 in the NJ Top 20 Notre Dame won its ninth Mercer County Tournament Title with a 9-3 win over fourth seeded Hopewell Valley. After falling behind 3-1, the third seed Irish opened things up in the bottom of the fifth inning off a Jake Kmiec RBI single to eventually go ahead 7-3. Kmiec would end the day 3-3 with 2 RBI’s including two triples. MVP honors went to West Point commit Robbie Buecker who after giving up two runs early on buckled down to end the evening with three hits allowed and six strikeouts. Scottie Gives Back: Lewis Hosts Hoops for Homeless
Prior to his jump into college basketball with the Florida Gators, Scottie Lewis brought some of the area’s top basketball players to Ranney for his second annual Hoops for Homeless. Lewis was inspired to use his status as one of the top basketball players in the country to give back. The event featured a number of high profile future college basketball stars including Louisville’s Aidan Igiehon, UConn’s Jalen Gaffney, Rutgers Paul Mulcahy and Xavier’s Zach Freemantle to name just a few. The dunk contest saw Scottie’s younger brother, Jaylen Smith, a junior at Raritan High steal the show with some big throwdowns. The McDonald’s All-American is about to become a household name across the country in college basketball and eventually the NBA, but as you’ll learn in our feature, Lewis is determined to use his basketball platform to make a difference in people’s lives: Proceeds from Saturday night’s game which included a raffle went to Lunch Break, which provides food, clothing, life skills and fellowship to those in need in Monmouth County and beyond. JSZ’s Nery Rodriguez has the Mercer County boys and girls championships while Rich Chrampanis has an outstanding Shore Conference boys semifinal battle between Shore Regional and CBA Princeton Day 7 Notre Dame 6 – Boys – Mercer County Final Top seeded Princeton Day captured its fourth straight Mercer County Tournament Title with a 7-6 comeback win over second seed Notre Dame. The Panthers fell behind 6-4 at halftime before a goal from Cal Caputo ignited things to begin the third. Jake Bennett would then follow it up with two more scores to take the lead. In the final quarter rather than try to attack PDS focus more on defense and held the ball to let time wind down. Bennett ended the day with a hat trick while goalie Connor Green had 10 saves. Tied 2-2 going into extra innings, HC’s Dave Pellitta pulled through in the top of the eighth to knock in the go-ahead run with a bases-loaded infield single. Stars Shine at Atlantic County Track and Field Championships

Hopewell Valley baseball advances to Mercer County Semifinals!
Fourth seed Hopewell Valley advanced to the Mercer County Tournament Semifinals with a 3-1 victory over fifth seed Allentown. The Bulldogs went to work early going ahead 3-0 following an error and a 2 RBI single from Tony St. John. Pitcher Dylan Joyce cruised into the seventh inning allowing just three hits and accumulated three strikeouts. However when down to their last out with a man on second Allentown scored on an RBI from Jack Nitti before Hopewell would force a ground out to second to end the game. After rainstorms downpoured Sunday, we were finally gifted with some warm spring weather Monday as we continue to close in on county playoff contention. JSZ has highlights from South Jersey’s Diamond Classic and the first round of the Mercer County Tournament, including some late regular season wins for Wall and Hillsborough. Enjoy all the highlights! Wall 1 Middletown North 0 Senior lefty Trey Dombroski was near perfect with a 16 strikeouts, no walks one-hitter on the road. Wall’s lone run came on an error in the 5th inning with the bases loaded and that was all that Dombroski needed. Dombroski gave up an early single, but was untouchable after that retiring 18 straight Lions. Wall is now 14-3 and clinches a share of the Shore Conference’s “B” North division championship. Montville scored on a wild pitch in the top of the first, but Delbarton answered with a pair of runs on a Shawn Rapp bunt that resulted in a two-run error. Delbarton broke the game open in the fourth with a four run frame. Patrick Orapello and Danny Baldino both finished with two goals each while sophomore goalie Dan Daly had eight saves. Meghan Murray scored the team-high and game-high of five goals for the Bucs. Madeline Kelly scored the second highest for the Bucs with three goals. Holmdel’s West Chester commit, Erin Mendini, tied with the game-high of five goals. The Bucs will face #4 Trinity Hall on Tuesday for the SCT Quarterfinals. It was a tight game from start to finish, the only two runs came in the bottom of the fourth when West scored on a wild pitch and sacrifice fly. While there wasn’t a lot of offense the Hornets relied on pitching to lift them up. Nate Diaz got the start and went seven innings allowing five hits and racked up five strikeouts. After Notre Dame put runners at third and second in the bottom of the seventh Jason Diaz came in for the final three outs and did not disappoint as his clutch pitching would lead them to victory. Midd. North’s Malori Bell Gets 1K!
The heart of a lion? This girl has that and then some. Middletown North’s Malori Bell became the 20th player in New Jersey softball history to collect 1,000 career strikeouts Thursday afternoon. Although she only transferred in a season ago the Fairleigh Dickinson University commit has earned the admiration and support from the Middletown community. That’s largely due to her hard work ethic and loving personality. Needing just two K’s coming against Ocean Township, Bell accomplished her milestone in just the first inning. Ridge Battles Back Late to Score Comeback Win over Moorestown
Ridge has proven time and time again this season they’re a true force to be reckoned with on the lacrosse field. However, it was the Red Devils who were tested throughout Thursday evening when they battled back late in the second-half to top Moorestown in an out-of-conference showdown. Senior Mike Zima led all scorers with five points (3 G, 2 A) and was the catalyst to Ridge (12-1) scoring seven goals in the final 15 minutes to snag the win on home turf. Mike Frankel takes us down south for Triton and Highland and Rich Chrampanis has round two of CBA and Manalapan in the Shore Conference Triton 11 Highland 7 The Mustangs exploded for nine runs in the top of the first inning to build a commanding lead. Matt Woods, John Scarborough, Aiden Sommers, Mike Shannon, and Jake Durham all drove in runs in the opening frame. La Salle commit Dylan Maria hit two home runs and finished with five RBIs for the Tartans in the loss. JSZ’s Mike Frankel has the highlights from this key Tri-County Conference rivalry game: CBA 3 Manalapan 1 After a two day 15 inning marathon won by the Braves, CBA turned around and handed Manalapan its first loss of the season thanks to a 2-hit masterpiece courtesy of Joe Escandon. Manalapan used a hit and an error to set up a sacrifice fly to strike in the top of the first, but Escandon put up six straight scoreless frames walking just two batters and striking out six. Mamma Mia! Cedar Grove Ace Mia Faieta Joins Rare Company with Milestone Strikeout
It sure seems like Cedar Grove star pitcher Mia Faieta’s new favorite number is 19. Faieta completed a no-hitter while striking out a staggering 19 batters Wednesday against Wayne Valley to become the 19th softball player in New Jersey history to record 1,000 career strikeouts. The milestone also came on senior night, where the Cedar Grove community was on hand to recognize the future Essex County legend. Faieta has put together one of the most dominant high school careers in recent memory and she’s far from done. Check out these numbers just through her senior season alone: 91 innings, 215 strikeouts, only 10 hits allowed along with a measly three earned runs. Watch JSZ’s feature on Mia Faieta’s record-breaking day here: Faieta has proven to be a valuable senior presence for the Panthers, who sit at 14-2 on the season and look to get to Kean University in June to compete in the Group 1 state tournament. Her remarkable effort on the mound Wednesday vs. Wayne Valley was one of many memorable performances through her career. Two days earlier, Faieta notched 20 strikeouts in a shutout against Verona — and she also made national headlines in 2017 for completing a seven-inning perfect game by striking out all 21 batters faced. It’s a wild Wednesday in New Jersery high school baseball! JSZ has the highlights of CBA and Manalapan that took two days to finish and ended with a walk-off in the 15th. Plus Woodstown hangs on for a win over Glassboro and Hamilton West and Allentown battle in Mercer County Manalapan 4 CBA 3 (15 innings) Sophomore Tommy Guidice hit a base hit to center to plate Jake Pallecchia with the game winner in the bottom of the 15th as Manalapan reaches 15-0 with a marathon win. The two Shore Conference rivals played to a 3-3 tie before darkness set in at the end of the 11th inning. Guidice hit an infield pop in the bottom of the 7th that fell in and plated two runs to tie the game at three. One day later, Guidice ended it. JSZ has the highlights of the extra innings drama along with post-game reaction: Hamilton West 2 Allentown 1 A Colonial Valley Conference meeting between 9-4 Allentown and 15-1 Hamilton West did not disappoint as it all seven innings to decide a winner. West jumped out to a 1-0 in the first inning, but both teams struggled on offense from there until the top of the sixth when Dan Merkel tied the game for Allentown with an RBI single. In the top of the seventh the the Hornets would retake the lead thanks to some clutch hitting from catcher Connor Luckie, who would drive in the game-winning run. Softball: Ingram Leads Mainland Past Previously Unbeaten St. Joseph

Summit 8 Ridgewood 7 – Girls Lacrosse The Summit Hilltoppers defeated the Ridgewood Maroons 8-7 on Monday night after a second half comeback. The Ridgewood Girls Lacrosse team went into the game against Summit undefeated at 12-0. The Ridgewood Maroons defeated Moorestown last week, and are now currently No. 1 in the state, and No. 4 in the National Top 25 rankings. The Summit Hilltoppers moved up to No. 3 after this major upset win against the Maroons. Lehigh commit, Katia Carnevale, was the superstar of Monday night’s game, scoring three goals for Summit. Under Armour All-American Canyon Birch became New Jersey’s all-time leading scorer in boys lacrosse in the tenth game of his senior season at Manasquan High. JSZ has the highlights and post-game reaction of the Warriors 13-2 win. Manasquan 13 Rumson-Fair Haven 2 Canyon Birch made history when his second goal of the game in the first quarter found the net. The future Penn State Nittany Lion became New Jersey’s all-time leading point scorer passing Matt Poskay’s 468 points. IMG Academy Boys LAX snaps Hun’s undefeated streak
IMG Academy 15 Hun 11 It was billed as one of the must see boys lacrosse matchups of the year and it didn’t disappoint. The Hun School of Princeton came into Friday’s matchup undefeated at 8-0 behind a plethora of NCAA Division I talent including commits from: Marquette, UNC, John Hopkins and Princeton University. However, IMG Academy also brang some hitters of their own and after a tied first quarter the athletic powerhouse began to pull away to lead 9-4 at halftime. Hun would retaliated with three unanswered goals to close out the third, but IMG would continue to pile on points late in the second half to come away with the victory. Leg Injury Doesn’t Halt Miller From Pitching Stateliners to 4-0 Victory
When Phillipsburg’s Ryan Miller took a come-backer straight off his right shin in the 4th inning, it seemed like his day on the mound might have been over. But the welt and a noticeable limp afterwards didn’t stop Miller – instead it gave him an additional adrenaline boost. Patrick Mastro throws a complete game on the hill and drove in a run in Mater Dei Prep’s 3-1 win at home over South River. JSZ has the highlights from Middletown! Westfield upsets Midd. North in 11 inning softball marathon!
The Blue Devils hit four home runs including a game tying blast in the seventh inning to force extra innings and another bomb that hit the foul pole in the 10th. That’s just a sliver of the exciting twists and turns from a NJ Softball Game of the Year candidate! Watch the highlights and post-game reaction now! Westfield 8 Middletown North 6 (11 innings) The Blue Devils hit four home runs and pounded out 11 hits to reach 9-0 and an upset win over a Lions squad that has spent most of the season ranked in the top five of the state polls. Freshman Kalea Culagay hit a two run homer in the seventh inning to tie the game at four and force extra innings. In the 10th, Julia Romano hit her second blast of the game to give Westfield a 6-4 advantage, but Middletown North rallied for two runs in the bottom of the frame to keep the marathon going. Westfield was able to persevere scoring on an error and sacrifice fly in the 11th to get its biggest win to date. Lions pitcher Malori Bell had a staggering 19 strikeouts in a losing effort. Bergen Catholic 6 Delbarton 2 Delbarton came into this game as winners of nine straight, ranked as the No. 1 team in N.J. and as the seventh-best team in the country — but Bergen Catholic wasn’t intimidated by the gaudy achievements. Notre Dame commit Dominic Cancellieri collected 11 strikeouts in the complete game and the Crusaders’ offense was led by sophomore Luis DeLaCruz. We have everything from extra innings walk-offs, to close games down to the wire, to a pair of blowout wins. Enjoy the highlights! Hopewell Valley 3 Robbinsville 2 (10 innings) Seven innings wasn’t enough for Colonial Valley Conference division rivals Hopewell Valley and Robbinsville. After taking a 1-0 lead in the first a pitching error allowed Robbinsville to tie the game in the top of the third. We’d remain at that score until the tenth when the Ravens scored on a sacrifice fly. Following a double play in the bottom of the inning Hopewell Valley was down to it’s last out with the bases loaded. The Pirates trailed for all about two and half minutes in the first quarter before unleashing a stifling offense that would eventually make it 8-3 at halftime. In the second act a change at goalie saw Todd Carolonza end the day with one goal allowed and seven saves. UMass commit Luke Blanc and University of Virginia bound Connell Kumar both found net three times. It didn’t take long for Cliff Omoruyi to become a household name in the New Jersey basketball scene and now the 6’11” Roselle Catholic center is making waves as a major Class of 2020 recruit. Omoruyi, who played alongside Kentucky commit Kahlil Whitney and Temple-bound guard Josh Pierre-Louis this past season, is becoming one of the hottest recruits in America. The Nigerian-native has begun piling up some major offers after his junior season and also playing in the NBA’s Basketball Without Borders showcase. Moorestown lax goalie earns spot in UA All-American game
Logan Lillie is the last line of defense for New Jersey’s defending Tournament of Champions winner and the #6 team in the latest Under Armour National Polls. The Moorestown goalie has been selected to play in the Under Armour All-American game this June in Baltimore. Lillie has signed with one of the nation’s top women’s lacrosse programs at Northwestern University. The Quakers netminder helped Moorestown win the Tournament of Champions in 2018. The Under Armour All-American teams have been announced in waves of 11 players. Thus far, half of the boys and girls rosters have been announced and three New Jersey players are on their way to Baltimore to play at Johns Hopkins University. Manasquan’s Canyon Birch and Delbarton’s Michael Long are representing the Garden State on the boys side and Lillie is the first NJ female to get the invite. Delbarton’s Michael Long Named UA 2019 All-American
New Jersey is known for its immense lacrosse talent and it seems that the national evaluators are catching on as well. Delbarton attackman Michael Long became the second Garden State player to be named as a roster member for Under Armour’s 2019 All-American Game. The announcement, which was the second installment of four, came earlier this week. Watch JSZ’s highlight reel of Michael Long here: Long, committed to Cornell University, has been a key scorer for the Green Wave over his last three seasons. As a junior last year, he collected a career-high 51 points on 30 goals and 21 assists. Long has been off to a hot start in 2019, too, as he’s already on pace to top those numbers. He has 11 goals and 18 assists this season as Delbarton sits at 5-2. Gloucester Catholic 13 Pennsville 0 The Rams rolled to victory in five innings thanks to a monster game from Tyler Cannon. The Iona commit hit a three-run homer and finished with five RBIs. Florida State commit Lillo Paxia went 3-3 with three RBIs. Rider commit Luke Lesch allowed just one hit in four innings of work on the mound to earn the win. Robbinsville’s Devon Witt hits grand slam in seventh to hold off Steinert!
Robbinsville 9 Steinert 5 It was one of the must see softball matchups of the year as reigning Tournament of Champions Winner’s No. 8 Steinert hosted No. 7 Robbinsville. These two programs have both brought home State Title’s the past few seasons and Wednesday morning’s matchup proved why. After scoring the first run of the game Robbinsville tried to play catch up with the Spartans as they would lead 6-3 thanks to not one, but two homeruns from Catcher Alex Haley. However, in the top of the seventh inning while trailing 7-5 and the bases loaded Devon Witt having already driven in two runs earlier hit a grand slam to give the Ravens a 9-5 lead. Her shot to right field would ultimately be the deciding factor. Robbinsville’s Olivia Moser also collected her 100th career hit and went 2-4 including a homerun of her own. Pascack Hills Tops Mahwah in Battle of Bergen County Unbeatens
Pascack Hills put together a truly remarkable season last year as they finished as county, sectional and state champions — but the Cowboys certainly don’t seem complacent in 2019 after such a stellar year. Pascack Hills employed a dangerous and balanced attack to take down undefeated Mahwah, 11-1 on Tuesday afternoon, to also keep their own unbeaten record intact. Villanova commit Brandon Siegenthaler led the way and was electric on the mound, collecting eight punch-outs over six innings of one-run ball. Moorestown 9 Lenape 7 – Boys The Quakers snapped a four-game losing streak with a key win over the Indians in this clash of top-20 teams. Ben Cantwell led the charge for Moorestown with four goals. Nick Cataline added three goals in the victory. Mason Bregman scored three goals for Lenape in the loss, while Bryce Reece added two.
