With each passing dual, the Rams are continuing to separate themselves from the rest of the pack.
Southern (10-0) avenged its only loss last season in dominating fashion on Thursday night by cruising by reigning Group 5 state champions Phillipsburg (7-1) with a 42-12 win.
The Rams won 10 of 14 bouts and won six consecutive bouts to pull away from the Stateliness early on. Scottie Sari (120 pounds), Conor Collins (132 pounds), Matt Henrich (150 pounds) and Cole Velardi (165 pounds) all racked up bonus points for Southern in the lopsided win.
This match had some extra juice. Phillipsburg defeated Southern in the Group 5 semifinals last season before going on to win the Group 5 team championship. That was the only loss Southern took last season, and it was clear they didn’t forget it.
